COMMENT
Market Outlook The market uncertainty lately has been driven by trade fears between the US and China and more recently Mexico. The rally this week has been driven by potential interest rate cuts. The market needs more economic positive signs to get back to the recent highs. The small business sentiment still points to more spending, which is supportive. US jobs numbers are still good with unemployment under 4%.

With the pullback it is yielding 6% and now is a good time to enter. The company still thinks they can get Line 3 in place by late 2020. The growing regulatory process is challenging on both sides of the border -- especially for an existing line. The work has already been approved, but eventually this will be completed. Now is a good time to buy for an income stock.

She likes this holding in their portfolio and it trades at 1 times book. A trade deal between China and the US will be positive for the market as a whole. She is not sure it will make more than a market like improvement as their business is not focused on goods going in or out of China.

Short interest? She owns TD-T, which has an interest in AMTD-Q. Short interest is one factor she looks at, but does not let it solely influence her decision. With only 2% short interest, it is too small to worry about.

She has owned this for a number of years. It treats, tests and transports water for many utilities. They have 20% of their business in emerging markets. Water is a scarce resource and she sees this a good long term hold. She might not chase it here and would buy on a pullback.

The OSB manufacturer for roofing and flooring. Prices for products has collapsed and new capacity is coming on-stream. She would not be buying a commodity based stock like this. If you are long already and the US economy continues to grow and interest rates do come down there may be upside in the housing sector. The over capacity issue is an overriding concern for her, however.

Stable dividend? A good solid pipeline and the dividend is safe. She does not own this however. The stock price will be swayed by the oil price, but the company is well run. It is a safe long term hold. The petrochemical plant is keeping her from stepping in to buy until they can demonstrate long term sign up of customers. Yield 8.4%

(A Top Pick Jun 08/18, Up 31%) A boring utility company, but the change in interest rates allowed this to soar. A very defensive holding with a stable cash flow stream. The company has projects in place and interests in the US. Cash flow is projected to grow for the next 5 years. Yield 3.5%

(A Top Pick Jun 08/18, Up 8%) Half of the gain was from the dividend. They have posted earnings growth of 7% over the year. They are trading below historical multiples. About 23% of earnings come from the US. She thinks they will continue to increase the dividend.

(A Top Pick Jun 08/18, Up 3%) The US banks have not rebounded as well as the Canadian ones. The US economy continues to grow and consumers are in an improving state. The stock trades at 11 times PE with a yield of 3%. She expects the dividend to continue to grow and expects them to buy back stock.
