Market. The markets are just bouncing on China trade news. America only really only has about 1% of GDP exposed to China and China really only has about 5% of GDP exposed to the US. That's what this is about. It comes at a time when volumes are light in the markets due to summer. Computers just keep triggering and that is why volatility is so high. The 10 year yield curve has inverted and spooked the markets. But low interest rates support the stock markets. The bull is crying 'wolf'.
DON'T BUY
They make great cars. He does not like the space. With the exception of China, auto sales have been flat for 20 years. There will be some winners but it is too early to speculate on which will be the winners. If you have to be in this sector, it is a good car maker.
HOLD

It has been a bit of a disappointment in that it has Asian exposure and has been there for decades, but the yield curve is a real headwind. They have to keep taking charges. He prefers SLF-T. They are good, solid companies, but they need a break on the yield curve.

HOLD
It has had a stormy couple of years. It is now coming back. They are in the energy business where there have been no money flows for 4 years. There is a turnaround in place. It will be a slow and steady stock.
BUY
It is one of the best stocks on the TSX over the last few years. Canadian tech stocks have done well relative to the rest of the Canadian market. There is not much choice amongst the Canadian techs.
DON'T BUY

He prefers SLF-T. PWF-T always looks cheap. He wants not just great dividend yield but growth. He wants 10% to qualify for him to do the research. Negative interest rates just don't work.

WATCH
They are a victim of circumstances. They serve a farming community. Plantings were very late this year. Crops in Ontario don't look very good. Disposable income is what Nutrien banks on. NTR-T serves its market extremely well. There is no rush to buy it, however. You have to wait until next spring.
COMMENT
We are in a sweet spot in the oil market. Two countries are down 5 million barrels at present. The stocks are ridiculously cheap. Oil consumption is flat. Oil stocks are cheap if we get to 70+ oil.
COMMENT
Owning royalties is usually a pretty good way to participate. You don’t have the exposure of operating the companies. However you will need a good oil price. If you felt comfortable that the price of oil was going to rise in the winter then it is a good place to buy these companies.
COMMENT
It moved a fair bit of its operations to the states where they get better pricing. This stock is very cheap right now. It is probably a pretty good entry point if you believe the price of oil is going to move up. (Analysts’ price target is $10.60)
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Sep 05/18, Down 6%) It is very difficult for them to lend money with a flat yield curve. Over time they have been a safe place to be. He is going to stick with it. Sometimes you just have to be patient in a market and if something is good, don't be shaken out of it.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Sep 05/18, Down 0.4%) They were the leaders in 17/18. They are not as on fire now. They have to get the momentum back and then they will grow. The techs can still grow.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Sep 05/18, Down 48%) They have never cut the dividend in worse times. The shorts might give up. The assets are good and management is good.
DON'T BUY
He owned the stock 8 or 9 years ago. He anticipated at the time that when China opened up the financial area they would be a beneficiary but China did not open up the area the way he hoped. He thinks there is no urgency to jump on this unless China opens up on this. It trades at 10 times earnings.
WATCH
It is one of the best looking charts and has not deteriorated as much as some of the others. They are well managed and in a good position. What they need is to get product out of Alberta. You need the oil pricing and that is all.
