DON'T BUY

Shares have fallen to a level that has not been seen since 2003. Have had a series of disappointments, one after another. Announced they are lowering 2013 guidance. This company has always gotten itself in its way. Further proof that they are falling behind times. There is a lack of new product development.

DON'T BUY

Feeling a bit more comfortable about this company but is still not ready to take a position. Results were better than expected. Built up their cash by reducing inventories during the quarter so with the introduction of BB10, they are going to have to start building those inventories back up again so the cash drain you are going to see in the upcoming quarter is what he had anticipated for the previous quarter. Worth watching. Would also like to have tax loss season behind him first.

PARTIAL BUY

Likes the group but prefers to play it through Agrium (AGU-T). Stocks have been selling off on concerns about the Asian economy. Although you can expect some slowness there, it isn’t the end of the world. He would start to nibble at these prices.

BUY

With respect to a US telecom, he feels this is very well valued. Pays a nice dividend. The advantage you get over a US telecom is the dividend tax advantage. 3.9% yield. Looking for $41-$42 over the next year.

BUY

Very well run company. Has had a move but for the long-term it still pays a great dividend. Has increased the dividend significantly over the years. 4.1% dividend yield.

BUY

Suncor (SU-T) or Canadian Natural Resources (CNQ-T)? Owns both but if he had to choose he would probably go with CNQ.

BUY

Suncor (SU-T) or Canadian Natural Resources (CNQ-T)? Owns both but if he had to choose he would probably go with CNQ, particularly today where it is selling off big on what he thought was reasonably good news. Could easily see $40 in the next 12 months.

BUY

Oil/gas service stocks have been hit pretty hard again as an extension of the weak oil market. (See Top Picks.)

BUY

Feels the dividend is reasonably secure. They derive all their revenue from other people’s drilling activity. They simply hold the royalty rights on vast acreages of land in Western Canada. Thinks it will continue to be a long-term great hold. 8.4% dividend yield.

COMMENT

(Market Call Minute.) Prefers Rogers (RCI.B-T).

SELL

(Market Call Minute.) No barriers to entry in this business and there are new competitors coming up every day. Wouldn’t go near it.

BUY

(Market Call Minute.) His favourite bank.

HOLD

(Market Call Minute.) Not his favourite tech stock but it is difficult to argue with the valuations.

COMMENT

(Market Call Minute.) A “Buy” only if you are a speculative investor.

WEAK BUY

(Market Call Minute.) This might be a Buy. They have started to turn things around.
