DON'T BUY
Sold his holdings but thinks there’s a real company in there but we’re in a market that is treating small caps like they are all going to go bankrupt. Can’t see a lot of downside at this point but it may take a long time.
COMMENT
Sold his holdings. Had some recent drilling success. First 3 holes they drilled were all dry so market was convinced to run. Also hit with the general pounding that small caps got. Extremely speculative but if you’ve got the stomach for it and think they could make it, it might be worth a look.
DON'T BUY
Whole solar sector ran up on a view that solar was going to come into a much bigger part of the energy mix. It will take some time and will require incredible patience.
DON'T BUY
Conventional energy trust, which he likes. Also owns the Come By Chance refinery, which is the big albatross around its neck. Getting to the range where if they got rid of the refinery it would do well but if they keep it, they’ll use their cash flow to keep it running.
STRONG BUY
A screaming bargain anywhere below $15. Trading at about 2X what it’s going to generate in cash flow over the next year.
PARTIAL BUY
Good play on fertilizer in China. Go in gently and try to average your entry price over time. Once the Olympic hangover is over and China goes back to work, this could be one that benefits significantly.
TOP PICK
Favourite energy trust. Lowest payout ratio in the industry. 6.2% yield. Own half of Verinex, which has huge drilling success in Libya. Thinks it will be sold. Believes the market has not given them credit for this. A lot of production in France and Netherlands so won’t get hit as hard in 2011.
TOP PICK
8.6% distribution is rock solid. Announced they will continue distributions after it becomes taxable. About 90% done on the big pipeline that is taking oil out of the oil sands. Will have to raise some more money to pay down the pipeline debt so you will be able to get a bit of a discount in Q4 and next year. He Buys below $9.50 and Sells above $10.
DON'T BUY
Sold his holdings. Likes management but there weren’t many barriers to entry in this business. A lot of competition. If you own, you cold Hold, but it will take patience. Debt free.
TOP PICK
Not brave enough for the banks yet but wanted to get a foot into the financials. Thinks that volumes are going to be good on the exchanges over the next while. Will benefit from this and cost savings from their merger with the Montreal exchange. 4.5% yield.
