(A Top Pick June 6/11. Down 18.29%.) Sold all his shares mid December.
COMMENT
A big gold company that continues to show good growth. The problem with the gold companies versus the price of gold is that they have been subject to the vagaries of mining problems and the high costs. He also owns a gold ETF, SPDR Gold ETF (GLD-N).
TOP PICK
Wants big producers. This is where the pension money will end up. They will need to diversify or protect themselves.
BUY
This is one of the large-cap gold stories that has a better growth profile. Had a couple of mildly disappointing quarters however she does have confidence in management that they can outperform going forward.
BUY
Lowest cost producer and 2nd largest gold stock in North America. Had some production issues at the Red Lake mine. Gold stocks have totally lagged the price of bullion. They will have 2 new mines coming on stream in the next 18 months and therefore will have growth in earnings regardless of what happens to the price of gold. Also, gives a 1.388% yield.
BUY
She has pretty much eliminated golds from the portfolios. Even though she likes gold the commodity, golds are acting just horribly. This one and Franco-Nevada (FNV-T) would be the 2 that she would buying on dips.
PAST TOP PICK
(Top Pick May 27/11, Down 16.45% Total Return) Wouldn’t be surprised if the gold stocks continued to perform fairly well. Sees the need for gold stocks in portfolios.
HOLD
In general, the entire space looks very interesting. Gold miners have decoupled from where they should be relative to the price of gold bullion. This is probably one of your better producers.
TOP PICK
Gold stocks have been rebounding a little bit recently. Has a low cost. Very, very good operators. Hit a poor quarter in Red Lake
TOP PICK
2nd largest and lowest cost gold producer because of its big Red Lake properties in Ontario. Had some disappointing results from Red Lake and was switching a mine in Guatemala from open pit to underground which created a big selloff. Has 2 new mines coming on in 18 months and will have growth in production from 6.2 million ounces.
TOP PICK
Gold. With the price at this point in time, this is a good addition. He is hoping for an increase in their dividend at a faster rate than they have in the past..
BUY
Has lagged the rest of the gold equities. Several reasons. The ETF introduction impacted it. Investors are disappointed at some of the production results. Sitting on lots of cash and they are paying a good dividend (1.5%)
DON'T BUY
(Market Call Minute.) Still has operating problems.
HOLD
She is looking to add to her positions when the underlying gold price stabilizes. This company has a great track record for increasing production and being a low-cost producer. Have a good plan for increasing over the next 3-4 years. Had a hiccup in their 1st quarter because their mine in Red Lake was lower than forecasted. Very solid gold producer and are in low risk regions globally.
