COMMENT
Overall they are doing pretty well. This is a leader in their field in the US. Price point is way too high for him to be interested in.
WAIT
Not of interest to him. Managed to loose money for so many years and yet still stay alive. The longer it hangs in the better a chance it has to turn around. You might want to look at Right Aid.
BUY
Old contract expired at end of 2011 with a prescription company. Cost them. It is pretty well priced into the stock. Will do well over the long term.
DON'T BUY
Doesn't feel they have executed brilliantly. He owns, but is not keen on adding to at this time.
WEAK BUY
Rumor today that "Express Scripts" and Walgreen have come to an agreement. In pharmacy space likes Walgreen over Express Scripts.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Jan 6/11. Down 18.21%.) Picked a fight with Express Scripts (ESRX-Q) with very low prospects of winning. Will be re-examining this one.
TOP PICK
If they don’t deal with the express scripts it will hurt them about 7%. In a battle over pricing. Things it will be settled.
DON'T BUY
Will problems with Express Scripts (ESRX-Q) take the wind out of their sails? Not interested in this primarily because of Wal-Mart (WMT-N), which uses its pharmacy counter to sell the rest of the store. Very difficult for chains to compete.
BUY
They fill about 1 in 5 US prescription drugs. Making big moves in their online presence in prescription fulfillment. Can benefit from the move to generics in the US.
TOP PICK
US pharmacy retailer. Recently beat the analysts’ estimates. Stock went down because of their relationship with Express Scripts (ESRX-Q), which represents about 8% of Walgreen’s sales. Feels this will be resolved by year-end and revenues will be up again.
COMMENT
Difficult chart to read because it has had a big increase. Recently had a bit of a decline but is starting to recover a bit. Could consider for a conservative portfolio with a target of about $49.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick May 27/10. Up 33.44%.)
TOP PICK
Benefiting from a two year period when they transitioned from a higher growth to a lower growth that focuses on excellence. They are just starting increased earnings.
DON'T BUY
Which is better, Shoppers (SC-T) or Walgreen (WAG-N)? Movement and some of the fundamentals of the 2 stocks are very similar. Both yielding about 2.4% and are trading at 14X PE multiples. Shoppers long-term earnings growth is expected to be 4% while Walgreen's is 14%. Consumers staple is not his favourite area.
TOP PICK
Largest drugstore chain in the US. About 2/3rds of their business comes from the pharmacy end. Aging population involves more prescriptions. Healthcare reform potentially introduces another 30 million customers. There is a move away from prescription drugs to generics, which have higher margins. Trades at about 11X 2011 earnings.
