PAST TOP PICK
(Top Pick Oct 28/11, Down 7.32%) Has more growth potential. Trading below its net asset value at the moment. A lot of people are afraid of the gold trade right now.
WATCH
Built the mine and the numbers don’t quite work the way they hoped. There isn’t enough information about the profitability. Watch until they really tighten up their numbers.
HOLD
Risk is not great. He still has half his original position. It is difficult to see how they move to the original 700,000 oz projection. These are very competent people, though. The jury is out as far has he is concerned.
DON'T BUY
Base metal and gold. Not acting very well – a bit of a warning sign. Should have seasonal strength about now. He doesn’t like this one because it hasn’t even shown signs of bottoming.
WAIT
Been under a lot of pressure but particularly beat up because Gold Corp sold their block in it a couple of months ago. As far as he knows there is nothing wrong with the mine and it is a good project, very economic. When precious metals turn around it will definitely be a good stock.
DON'T BUY
Chart shows a little double top at the end of 2010 and early 2011 followed by a breakdown through the trend line. He would look for support at around the $8 range. If it didn't hold there, you are probably looking at $5.50.
DON'T BUY
Had been training in a range between $13 and $15 for quite a while. It has broken down but has also gone against the markets so it is clearly not market related but is company related. There is a downward trend channel. You want to see it breaking above $12.50.
WAIT
Was a growth company when they first found the asset and was putting it into production. The amount of gold in the rock is not what there. Now the mine has to be tweaked. Just the mention of that in a skittish market can knock it down.
BUY
Just reported profits of $40 million from the Malartic mine in Québec. This company is a start-up producer and as production kicks in, cost of production will come down. Good quality producer.
HOLD
Now producing gold ore. Thinks the market had priced in perfection but it is very rare that I didn't mine starts up without some tinkering needed. They are getting things on track. Good, long-term play. Have another couple of projects on the back burner that could potentially give them growth.
TOP PICK
Big mine just came online this year. Came under a lot of pressure this year. Big fund liquidated a lot of stock. Great new mine coming on and could be a takeover target. It looks really good here. SO they are missing a little on the production number on a start up mine – who doesn’t?
WATCH
Ramping up to be a 600,000 ounce a year gold producer by 2013. World-class mine. Acquired Hammond Reef assets, which will be difficult as they are underwater. Look for a resource update by the end of this year.
BUY
Now that the gold mine is producing, it is a question of who buys them out. A world-class resource in a political stable jurisdiction. If you're comfortable that gold prices are going to be in the $1400-$1500 this will be a very successful and profitable company.
COMMENT
Look at this in the spring when it was under $14. Is back to this price again with much higher old prices. Some healthy skepticism on Bay Street that they can bring the mine into production on time and under budget but they have done it so far. A little perplexed why the stock doesn't perform better.
BUY
Did a tremendous job of bringing the asset base from initial exploration to full production. Has very good leverage to the gold price. Good growth profile.
