BUY

Canadian banks continue to offer good value on a medium time frame. If we were to see a rapid ratcheting up of interest rates, they would be vulnerable, but this is not expected. The banks offer reasonable value here.

BUY

Great bank. 79% of their revenue comes from the loan book. Very efficient bank. Very low dividend yield. Lots of capital and are probably saving that to do an acquisition. Would prefer if they increased the dividend or buy back shares.

DON'T BUY

Doesn't like the banks. They have just come off 52 week highs. Historically they always give you a chance to buy at some point and he is going to wait with his hands open at prices he is willing to pay. Wait until they get ugly.

HOLD

Likes it. Good management. Getting fully valued. Will be a beneficiary of any higher rates the way their loan book is set up.

DON'T BUY

A great bank, but it's expensive. Has a low yield relative to the rest of the companies.

BUY

Based in Alberta which is growing like a weed, so the quality of their loan book and their lending growth opportunities are both excellent.

The smallest bank out there, but probably the one with the most growth. Will probably be taken over by one of the majors.

Western economy has been booming and the bank has had a good year. Very illiquid and difficult to own from an institutional basis. A very good, solid, well run company for the retail investor.

WEAK BUY

Very thinly traded. Like the other banks, it's cheap, a good multiple point cheaper, but doesn't have the same growth profile and diversification. Probably not a takeover candidate. Prefers the bigger banks.

TOP PICK

Strong management. Took over a direct insurance business last April. Also acquired a trust. Changing from an interest driven business.

BUY

Prefers over Laurentian.

HOLD

Selling at about 13 1/2 X earnings. Has lagged the other Banks but is fully valued. Model priced is about $44.30.

PAST TOP PICK

(A top pick Mar 8/04. Down 5.7%.) Still likes. A very strong situation. Investors should take advantage of any dips.

TOP PICK

Might be acquired down the road. A high quality operation.

BUY

Has been a very steady performer in a volatile market.
