TSE:AGU

Agrium (AGU.TO)

BUY
This is the core of his agricultural sector.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
He carries a target price on this of over $100. You have to be careful right now because corn is a very big influence on nitrogen prices and corn is going through the roof because of dryer weather. He would prefer to Buy this in the mid-$80’s.
COMMENT
This stock will be driven by crop pricing. Corn and wheat have moved up sharply. He owns this (and CF Industries (CF-N)) as a “trade”. This is a weather based trade and may be short lived. If the weather breaks and the crop turns out fine, this group could pull back.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
Corn and wheat prices are up. This is his favourite of the ags. They are more diversified. Steadiest earnings. 10x earnings. If you want to time it, wait a bit.
TOP PICK
United Nations population forecast is that the Asian population is going to increase by 1.1 billion. These new mouths plus the 4 billion that are already there are going to have to be fed.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick July 20/11. Up 4.38%.) Prefers over Potash (POT-T) because of its diversification and the retail network they are building up globally, which will be a great long term value added proposition.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick May 18/11. Up 10.82%.) A little more diversified than the other companies in the industry. Just increased their dividend from $0.44 to $1.00. Trades at 9.5X earnings. Their purchase of Viterra (VT-T) is going to help on the retail side.
BUY
Has been hanging in reasonably well. More diversified product than Potash (POT-T). Very large retail business. Reasonably defensive set of assets. Just raised its dividend.
BUY
Broader spread of product that POT-T. Likes how they stepped off shore into Australia. You have not yet seen the impact of that acquisition. It’s a volatile stock and doesn’t pay a dividend. One of the few growth stocks he has.
HOLD
Has been holding steady at around the 50 and 200 day moving averages. Because of its retail exposure, the stock has been holding quite nicely.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick July 20/11. Down 1.49%.) Long-term focus has to be on the growth population in Asia, which is estimated to be 1.1 billion.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick May 18/11. Up 3.3%.) Good diversification with both production of fertilizers and of sale/retail divisions. A Buy at this price. The accretive acquisition they just made of Viterra’s (VT-T) retail operation is going to boost earnings and little bit. Trading at about 9X this year's earnings.
TOP PICK
People have to be fed, otherwise governments face revolutions. This company supplies the nutrients and other things that go into growing crops.
COMMENT
This sector, in Canada, has not been firing on all cylinders. Chart shows a really nice upward trend line but he would've preferred to see the line heading for that peak from a year ago. He would like to see support hold in at $83 but there is a really good chance we could re-visit the $70.
HOLD
Best momentum of all the Ag. stocks out there. Stick with it. You are in the right name. Chances are it will bounce off its high. This stock wants to go higher.
