Nortel AS (NTEL.TO)

BUY
Trading sideways. Customer spending on equipment is expected to increase about 5% in 2004. This should propel the stock price up.
DON'T BUY
Dead money. Model price of $4.69
DON'T BUY
Probably dead money for quite some time. They have a model price of $4.66.
SELL
They need 40% gross margins to be profitable. Even using 60% margins, they could not get beyond a $3 stock price.
BUY
Can see higher highs, but don't expect a robust recovery. You'll get a cycle recovery and a decent demand for the product which will give you reasonable growth.
DON'T BUY
Their wireless customers are starting to buy but he doesn't expect the land line to increase very much.
DON'T BUY
Stock is very expensive. If you are a short-term trader, look for some exit points.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
Has gotten too far ahead of itself. See it in the $7/8 range over a 2/3-year period. Would buy under $5.
DON'T BUY
Has had a good move on expectations that there will be an economic recovery in spending. Expects some spending improvement in telecommunications. Looks expensive. Might be an interesting stock for a trader.
SELL
Should be taking some money off the table now. Moving sideways. Not a lot of earnings. Not cheap on a historical “ price to book”.
DON'T BUY
Still a turnaround play. Management has done a great job stabilizing the situation. Sales are flat, no growth, and they are approaching break even. Not sure where the growth will come from and the stock looks expensive.
DON'T BUY
An important question is, can they grow the revenue base. Kind of expensive given the growth outlook that the market is looking for.
DON'T BUY
Ranks about the middle of the database. Earnings are expected to go form 5¢ to 16¢ in 2004. Pretty good PE to growth rate. ROE is forecast at 19%. Prefers using Metek (?) as a way of playing on Nortel’s expectations.
DON'T BUY
Thinks that it will be hard to sustain the current valuation. Better opportunities elsewhere for long term holds.
HOLD
Will continue to land contracts. Strong.
