BUY
Gas prices have come off a bit and these stocks tend to trade in sympathy with commodity prices. Good price and expect good returns on a longer-term basis.
WEAK BUY
You won't make a lot of money, but you won't get killed either. Currently in a downtrend. If it goes below $40, would not be interested.
TOP PICK
(Top pick Sept 10/03. Down 8.8%.) The consolidation built a really big powerhouse. Has a great gas play.
TOP PICK
Has dropped because of decline in natural gas prices. Have done a tremendous amount of exploration. Thinks this will produce a huge amount of natural gas.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
The market is expecting lower oil and natural gas prices over the next 12 months. Should be able to get it at a lower price.
TOP PICK
Performance has not been very good. From a multiple standpoint it still looks like the premier producer in North America. The stock has to be held for the short and long term.
DON'T BUY
As a buy and hold strategy, would prefer Suncor. In the short-term, gas prices are vulnerable.
DON'T BUY
Model price is the same as the current price, so fully valued.
DON'T BUY
A good senior producer. Phenomenal track record. Strong management. Prefers playing the juniors.
SELL
Q: should I sell Encana and invest in Suncor? Has had a nice run and is near the upper end of the range where he would see them topping out. Investing in Suncor would be a good choice.
PAST TOP PICK
(A top pick December 30/02. Up 3%.) Still likes. They have great properties, but expensive to mine. Doesn't see the stock going anywhere from here.
TOP PICK
Has lagged the group. Likes their international play. Has a lot of cash.
PAST TOP PICK
(A top pick Sep 19/03. Up 5%.) Going into a very positive season. Still likes.
BUY
Becoming the premier exploration company, which is really making its focus in North America. Still under owned by US institutions.
TOP PICK
Has pretty well stayed flat since its merger with Pan Canadian. They have been trying to build a big gas base in North America. There could be a big demand for gas again this winter.
