Verizon (VZ-N) recently announced they were going to be buying back all of their shares (45%) so seasonality has nothing to do with what is going on right now. Chart shows a very distinctive upward trend. Along with this, it is outperforming the S&P 500 and trading above its 20 day moving average. As long as those 3 technical parameters are there, stick with it. If you own, you probably will want to take some profits within the next month or two.

BUY

Clearly trying to show that the business is worth more than the sum of the parts and this is likely true. Stock is behaving particularly well. Had a nice lift as the Verizon (VZ-N) deal was coming out and it continues to lift.

COMMENT

Verizon (VZ-N) announced they will be buying back all of their shares (45%) from this company. Deal doesn’t close until the end of the 1st quarter of 2014. This is a great deal for them to get out of the US, which is very competitive. They will concentrate on Europe where the economy is slowly picking up. They can grow in the Middle East and in Africa. Nice dividend. One caveat would be that he thinks that a good portion of this purchase is in stock so, to some degree, you will be at the mercy of what the market thinks about Verizon. Thinks that this stock has legs.

BUY

Verizon (VZ-N) has announced they will be buying back all of their shares (45%) from this company. This deal doesn’t close until the end of the 1st quarter of 2014 and he will continue to Hold until that time. He is still going to buy stocks for new clients.

TOP PICK

This is a special situation. It is a giant in the UK. It is going to receive a massive amount of cash from Verizon (VZ-N) and will march on to other new things and load up the holders with dividends.

PAST TOP PICK

(Top Pick Apr 29/12, Up 7.86%) It was an attractive under owned asset. Verizon is the gem. If you believe the numbers, there will be a mixture of cash and stock when they buy into Canada. It becomes pretty compelling. If this deal happens it will release value in the company. There will be a big share buyback.

COMMENT

Undervalued on a “sum of the parts” basis. Have some great global assets. Looking to sell its 45% stake in Verizon (VZ-N) in order to expand in Europe. He thinks the deal gets done because Verizon doesn’t want to have a partner in one of their fastest growing assets.

BUY

A reasonable value here. Competitive advantage.

HOLD

Loves this one. One of the most intriguing companies out there. 2nd largest wireless phone provider globally after China Mobile. Owns 45% of Verizon Wireless (VZ-N) which he thinks is the jewel of the company. Also, has large wireless assets in Europe and some emerging markets. Expects that they want an exit strategy out of Verizon but in the meantime are happy to get big dividends from them. If they sold their Verizon holdings, they’d probably put the money back into Europe closer to the bottom. Currently they are interested in increasing fair holdings in a German cable company.

COMMENT

Potential for growth in the emerging market segment of their portfolio is significant. European portion of their portfolio is not so great but not terrible. The jewel in their Crown is their 45% ownership of Verizon Wireless.

COMMENT

There is some turnaround in the European assets that they own. They own 45% of Verizon Wireless (VZ-N) and the big issue is what happens with this one. Feels that it is stuck but they continue to pay a great yield.

PAST TOP PICK

(Top Pick Apr 29/13, Down 2.94%)

BUY

Likes vodafone. Owns 45% of Verizon wireless. 3 years ago started paying it's first dividends. Possible buy out from Verizon.

TOP PICK

(A Top Pick March 19/13. Up 7.98%.) Owns large wireless operators in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, India, Africa. If they were to get the value for Verizon (VZ-N), you are paying 1 or 2 times earnings for those assets. He can see $5-$10 of more value in the stock price. Yield of 3.39%.

COMMENT

There were rumours a few weeks ago that Verizon (VZ-N) was going to buy this company to get control of the 45% of Verizon Wireless. However to do so, would create an enormous capital gains bill.
