LinkedIn Corporation (LNKD)

PAST TOP PICK

(A Top Pick June 9/16. Up 43.53%.) This was acquired by Microsoft (MSFT-Q).

TOP PICK

He bought because it had the most amazing 50% collapse due to caution in its growth. It is the only Internet stock allowed to operate inside China.

COMMENT

Had a dramatic 43% drop today. It is a tough call, but this could be where it settles in. If you want to try and trade this, the best thing you could do is keep this low of the day sacrosanct. It is really difficult to try to trade this for some short move.

COMMENT

He joined in on this a while back, but found no value in it for him. It is just not his kind of company. There is a lot of different kinds of investing, but this is one that he chooses not to indulge in.

COMMENT

He pays for their services and finds them mildly useful. The stock chart looks like a stock that wants to keep going up. He would guess it trades at a pretty rich valuation. His concern would be that people start getting fed up with the constant push to upgrade or they start increasing prices. Not a bad little business and it does fill a need.

BUY

It is aimed at a business consumer and users are prepared to pay. Great revenue and earnings growth. Held up well during the decline. It is an expensive stock, but it is one of those companies that is winning a growing share of the wallet.

COMMENT

Thinks this is something that he would want to own. It is pretty much flat year to date. They are sitting on a large amount of cash, which is a new thing for a lot of these Internet names. Who knows if maybe they’ll start returning some of that cash to shareholders and/or start paying dividends.

COMMENT

A social media which is more difficult to value because of a lack of earnings. Thinks they reported recently and results were disappointing. Have users, but have to figure out a way to make money. There are a lot of expectations built into these names. Very momentum driven. If you want something that is more visible in terms of earnings growth and outlook, a large global industrial name would be a good choice. Also, check out her Top Picks for a good substitute.

DON'T BUY

Not up her alley. Her issue with it is capital protection. All of a sudden you don’t own what you thought you did and you are stuck with a big loss. Valuation is key. This is how a lot of investors get hurt in the market.

WATCH

This one has rapidly growing sales. About 8 times revenues, though. If it gets forced down to low $100 range, he would seriously consider buying it if it continues to grow in revenues and in profits. It has to invest heavily. It has a first to market advantage.

WATCH

You can see that growth is slowing down by the chart. There is possible topping. Neck line of support is about $170. But if it drops below that, the legend of the gaps having to be filled just isn’t necessarily true. It may or may not fill the gap.
