HOLD
Has been dead as a dodo. Pays a reasonable dividend, which is why he has been hanging on to his holdings. They were going to spin off some of their south Chinese assets.
DON'T BUY
New CEO is a good sign but any turn around will take longer than expected. Still not sure what the new CEO’s vision is.
DON'T BUY
Decided to keep their southeast Asian assets. New CEO is trying to position the company for stronger production growth. Her preference would be for it to settle and start moving up before buying.
DON'T BUY
Integrated space. A little bit more challenged. Reasonable valuation but the problem is the new CEO who came from telecom. Fairly heavy exposure to refining and not a lot of catalysts.
HOLD
Acting totally different form others, probably something to do with fundamentals. Below its falling 200-day moving average. If you own, have a Stop Loss just below $25, maybe $23.50. It could break to the upside.
DON'T BUY
Has had an amazing decline, which he hadn't expected. Not reaching its replacement of assets target.
DON'T BUY
Well managed with a decent yield but doesn't see the dividend going up very much. Sold his holdings.
DON'T BUY
Company seems to be spinning its wheels. There was talk of them spinning off their South Sea’s interests. Dividend is okay but production has been falling. Refineries are having trouble keeping their margins up.
DON'T BUY
Has a great deal of difficulty in replacing production.Management is from the telecom industry creating some uncertainty as to their future plans.
DON'T BUY
Prefers other energy stocks that provide higher dividend yields and better production growth. Have new management that hopefully will refocus their exploration portfolio. Hoping to spin off some Chinese assets in the next year or so.
WATCH
Started looking at this one. New CEO has started to make some changes. Can't continue to over promise and under deliver. Also wants a little more clarity on the Asian assets. Recently made an acquisition indicating they want more growth in Western Canada. Have 3 hot plays including the Shaunevon, Viking and Cardium. 4.75% yield.
COMMENT
(Market Call Minute.) When gas rebounds, they'll probably spin off their Asian gas assets as an IPO, that is a catalyst to move it back into $28-$30.
COMMENT
New CEO with telecom experience. Large shareholder in Hong Kong likes the dividend but if the board wants to see growth, the dividend might be at stake.
DON'T BUY
His oil studies indicate that all oil stocks want to go lower. For the last 40 years, TSX oil/gas Index bottomed at about 1-1.25 times Book so at the present time he would look for about 15%, but another 20% after that if it falls to an extreme.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Aug 7/09. Down 14.78%.) New manager. Waiting for the spin-off of their Southeast Asia assets. Thinks it will do okay. Dividend looks safe.
