HOLD
Earnings should continue to be strong in the sector. It might lose momentum if oil prices drop a little bit in the 2nd half of the year.
WAIT
Will trade with the price of oil, so has come off its recent highs. Going into a seasonally weak period, so they could drop further. For long term investors, it still represents good value. but wouldn'r be in a hurry to buy it here.
BUY
Bullish on oil/gas. Stocks have pulled back in the last few days, so this could be a nice entry point. He likes this company. Has a reasonable valuation. Selling off non-core assets. Going into a better and more predictable growth mode.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Jan 7/05. Up 26%.) Looks like it has the ability to grow. Not so inexpensive anymore. Have sold 1/2 their position.
BUY
Q: Which would be better to hold for the long term, Encana (ECA-T) or Suncor (SU-T)? They are not too far off in terms of valuations. On a cash flow basis, Suncor is more expensive. Feels that you should own something in the heavy oil sands, so would prefer Suncor. He owns both.
DON'T BUY
Shot up and is now in an extended market, a parabolic move, that often gets corrected.
DON'T BUY
Has had a pretty sharp move since the beginning of the year. Has conducted itself admirably within the group. Have done all the right things. Traded the right properties and tilted their mix towards natural gas. The easy money's been made. If you own, take some profit.
BUY
Very well run. Has had a nice little pull back and wouldn't have a problem buying.
PAST TOP PICK
Not expensive. If it came off 10% he would buy more.
HOLD
Lately progressing well. Oil prices are staying high. Hold.
BUY
Net assets behind cash flow. Long term cash flow gains.
DON'T BUY
Starting to spike. The big problem with spikes is that you don't know where they are going to end. They do have a tendency to end abruptly. Wouldn't buy at this point. If you want to continue holding, watch the trend lines. Consider taking some profits.
BUY
It's clearly on a tremendous kick. Investors seem to love this pure North American approach.
BUY
Very well run company. Have reinvented themselves through buying and selling properties in the last 6 months. Have a lot of gas.
DON'T BUY
Doesn't meet his criteria. Prefers the Oil Sands and Encana got out of this area with their sale of Syncrude assets. Also disagrees with their very substantial hedging strategy. Prefers others.
