There’s been a lot of investor interest in lithium names. We are coming into the seasonal period where mining stocks can actually do well. When you have a momentum trend, plus a seasonal trend to back it up, that is positive. Chart shows it has broken above the channel, which is a good sign. There may be some resistance at $2, but if it breaks above $2, that will be fairly positive.
This is a seasonal period when Lifecos in general tend to do well. This is a special vehicle where they buy a lifeco, split it up and give the capital appreciation to one half, and the dividend to the other half. Dividend yield of 19% is extremely high, and he is having trouble with that. Technically, it is getting close to the top of its range once again, and looks pretty good.
There are rumours that Amazon (AMZN-Q) is going into the drug area. For the American people, that would be a wonderful thing, because it would provide transparency and price for drugs, which they don’t have. Chart shows this has been in a downward channel since the middle of 2016. Fundamentally, it is not looking strong. If he owned, he would set a Stop on it, looking to get out.
Has had quite a cloud hanging over it. From a technical or seasonal perspective, it is not something he would be taking a look at. Chart is showing this is starting to have an uptick, which is positive from a technical perspective. If it breaks above the $29.50-$30 level, that would be a positive signal.
Seasonality for natural gas is from September 5 to December 21. This is because, with seasonal investing, you want to be in there before everybody else gets in. The big withdrawals for natural gas is when it is actually used, January and February. In effect, you want to buy the rumour. When everybody else starts to pull in, that’s when you want to get out. Natural gas is down again today. He has a Stop on his position. The warm weather is really exciting things up, and demand has been low.
There is a really strong seasonal period for this company. Since 2000 to 2016 on average, it has underperformed the S&P 500 annually. However, in the small window from Oct 10 to Dec 8, it has averaged 8% and outperformed the S&P 500 88% of the time. You want to be in it before everybody else gets in, so you get in early. If you are into Short Selling, then you want to Short this from Dec 9 to March 1. Dividend yield of 2.8%. (Analysts’ price target is $125.)
This is a seasonal period for the banks. In the past, when there has been a run-up and outperformance in the market in the summer, it has actually peaked in December. If you see a strong bounce and outperformance in Sept/Oct and Nov, earnings have to be really good. Investors want to be there for Q4 earnings, because that is where most stock splits and dividend increases occur. If there is a little bit of weakness, even on good earnings, that might be a time to lighten up.
Market. The TSX got back to where we were in February. If it breaks out from here, it could show some Run. We have enough underlying factors, particularly if oils start to react. A lot of the oil stocks are trading well under their BV, and he could see oil at $60. Banks are doing OK. We could hit some good territory.
Had a pretty nice run some months ago. His concern is that there is too much emphasis on building their far east, particularly their China business. Financial institutions going into China are subject to a situation where their business could disappear overnight if the Chinese government decided to step in. He would rather go with Sun Life (SLF-T).
He used to love to say bad things about this company. It is going sideways and seems to be solving some of their overhanging debt problems. Expect you may have to see this stock go sideways for another couple of years before they sort out their game plan. Don’t go with fallen angels, move on to better places.
