Doing everything right. Decided to no longer hedge their oil/gas right at the peak. Probably going to have a pretty good quarter. Extremely well run. Have about $1.2 billion in cash. Good to $18 if not higher.
BUY
Airlines are a tough business. Razor thin margins. Not so for this one. Just reported their 28th quarter of consecutive profitability. Very good company and well-managed. Nice young fleet of 737's. Non-unionized workforce. This is a great way to play the airline industry. 1.6% dividend.
DON'T BUY
Doesn't like it because you can't make much money on it, and it's very jumpy so can't analysis. Likes the company, but not as a stock.
DON'T BUY
Would never recommend buying an airline. More money has been lost by investors in airlines more than any other sector. They are faced with high and rising prices for jet fuel and there is still overcapacity in the industry.
BUY
Likes their expansion into the US. Lower energy prices and the stronger Cdn$ helps.
DON'T BUY
Good profit for the second quarter, well managed airline. Airlines can be heavily leveraged to drops in interest rates and energy prices helped them hold in so well in recent downturn. Doesn’t like airlines – capital intensive business.
COMMENT

7 month call options? Doesn't encourage people to Buy options nor to hold them to expiration because of time decay. If you get a profit on it, take your money.

DON'T BUY
Company is perpetually between 10 & 16 dollars for an extended period of time. Questions the long term growth prospects.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Aug 13/10. Up 25.28%.) Took some money off the table when it went through $15 but still has half his position.
DON'T BUY
West Jet versus Air Canada? Airlines is a lousy, lousy business. Has never owned any. Okay for short-term trading opportunities. If you must own airline, it should be West Jet as it is a quality company of the two.
HOLD
May have penetrated its 2008 resistance level. Good upward trend line from 2008. If it breaks through, that is really, really positive. Recent lower oil prices will help the airlines. If you own, hold to see what happens. If it goes below the $14.50 level, he would probably put a stop/loss in there as it will probably head towards the $12 level.
BUY
As they continue to penetrate the eastern Canadian triangle, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City with more regular flights, there is a terrific opportunity to steal market share. Expecting very good earnings growth.
COMMENT
Well run company and did very well on their earnings. Doesn’t like the airlines for the long term. They tend to do much better in the fall, September and October. If this stays above the $14.50-$15 level, that’s a good thing but if it breaks down below that he would be exiting.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Aug 13/10. Up 26.67%.) Easy money has been made.
DON'T BUY
If you are going to own an airline, it is probably a great one to own. At the end of the day, airlines are a tough business. So many other great investments out there.
