UTS Energy (UTS.TO)

TOP PICK
We are in a long-term commodity cycle. There will be ups and downs and this may be the start of a Down. Globally, the focus will be on safe energy. The net asset value should be in excess of $15.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
A pure play on oil sands. Oil sands has a lot of leverage on the price of oil. To believe in this, you have to believe in a very strong oil price. Would like to see it have a correction before buying.
SELL
Very highly valued relative to its asset value. Directly tied to an oil sands project that is five years away.
BUY
Had a huge base, nice rise and has now crossed the $7 on the upside. It must hold $6.50 to be healthy. Believes the stock will continue to do well.
BUY
Basically a pure play on the price of oil. If you are bullish on oil for the long term, should own oil sands stocks.
DON'T BUY
Speculative. At some point, it becomes a mature speculation in the sense that there isn't going to be any significant news from the company, probably for a couple of years. If you want exposure to oil sands, you can buy an Encana (ECA-T), where the oil sands are valued at zero.
DON'T BUY
Fairly fully valued at this stage. Likes their project in the oil sands area.
DON'T BUY
His take on energy is that we are getting close to the end game. The stock could easily be lower by the end of the year. A long term project which will go ahead, but doesn't think investors will hang around that long.
BUY
Has done well and will continue to do well because it's levered to the oil sands. Has done well because of speculation of a takeover bid which is inevitable.
TOP PICK
Ideally located in the oil sands with two significant partners. It will probably be taken out within a year.
DON'T BUY
It isn't really an operating company which is why he hasn't owned it. The oil sands is a great area to be in and you should have some in your portfolio. Would prefer Suncor (SU-T) which has production. This one is speculative.
BUY
Its fortunes lie with two major entities, Teck Cominco (TEK.SV.B-T) and Petro Canada (PCA-T). Longer term, it will be taken out by one or both of these players. Has no earnings or cash flow and is a straight development play. Speculative.
DON'T BUY
Involved mainly in the oil sands. It will be a long time before there are actual cash flow production. A bit too expensive then what he would like to see.
BUY
Junior oil company with a part ownership of an oil sands development that will be built in the Athabascan area. Petro Canada (PCA-T) and Teck Cominco (TEK.SV.B-T) are partners. Now producing anything right now, so you are buying a long way in the future. All portfolios should have some oil sands.
DON'T BUY
UTS has negative fair market value. He does not see where it is going to go. Often stocks like this will go down to book value and book value is 69 cents. Flying high on expectations. If expectations are met and they have good solid earnings, this will be positive but they don't see them yet. Expectations but no delivery.
