UTS Energy (UTS.TO)

BUY
An over the horizon oil sands project, so no one knows what it’s going to cost. Have good sponsors. A reasonable Buy around $4.
BUY
Fell out of bed because of 1) environmental concerns related to the oil sands and 2) the exploding cost structure. They have great land exposure and first-class management.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Nov 18/05. Down 4.2%.) This was a surprise to him considering the good partners that they have. They should be a mine plan coming up from Teck Cominco (TCK.B-T) soon. A patient Hold.
DON'T BUY
Not a lot of upside in the name. Gets a fair bit of airtime because it’s an oil sands play. Fairly valued. Could be a takeover target.
HOLD
Has dropped with oil prices. Costs of projects in the Fort McMurray area high. If oil goes over $70 this won’t be an issue.
BUY
Oil sands play. Did a good job of bringing other partners into its project. Stock has dropped with the increasing capital costs in the oil sands and higher crude prices. This is like a long-term bond on crude prices. Relatively speculative.
BUY
Oil sands project costs are rising almost by the month and are going through the roof. Since this company is not producing, that is a negative. If you truly believe that the price of oil will go up in years to come, this would be a good holding.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
At this price it's a reasonable situation. Sell and$6. A company of potential. There is years before cash flow begins probably. Good oil sands properties with good partners. Speculative.
BUY
US needs safe energy in terms of security of supply and reasonable pricing. Looking out 3-4 years, anyone in the oil sands will do very well, cost overruns and supplies of natural gas notwithstanding. This is one of the prime players. Feels that someone will take them out between $6-$8.
DON'T BUY
Could be a takeover target, but a lot of that is baked into the price. Prefers companies that have proven, established operations.
DON'T BUY
Very highly levered to what happens in the oil sands play. Has no current income or profitability for the next several years, which is why it is having, a higher beta compared to other energy stocks. Technically, there are no real strong lines in the sand in terms of support. Speculative.
WEAK BUY
Now back in a reasonable price zone. This is a project that is over the horizon and future earnings are little bit too future for him. Have some good properties.
DON'T BUY
Very speculative. Has dropped 60% since March. Prefers Suncor (SU-T).
BUY ON WEAKNESS
Recommends being here. It is a good time to enter.
BUY
Owns this stock and buying for new accounts. UTS is extremely well-placed. There are some problems with the oil sands ( environmental concerns and infrastructures in Fort Murray) But there is a need for the US to secure a safe long term oil supply.
