HOLD

His third-largest holding in his personal portfolio. Has a product that goes into the USB port on your computer and allows you to reach into any computer, where you have authorization, around the world. Has been trading in a band of 3.5 cents to 5 cents. Currently at break even on earnings and cash flow. Home and security just renewed their contract. Expecting significant orders in the next 12 months.

RISKY

Owns a small amount. This company designs, develops and distributes technology for gaming solutions. The real key in this is that the US, after much foot dragging, is allowing Internet gaming. This is done on a state-by-state basis. Company has a history of robust software. Near-term earnings are expected to go from $0.055 cents in 2013, growing to $0.37 in 2014.

COMMENT

Ranks 500 out of 700 stocks in his database. Expected that there will be no earnings, virtually breakeven for 2013, but expecting $.09 in June/15..

RISKY

His 2nd largest holding. Currently have a lawsuit underway against Saint-Gobain & Philips. Separate from the lawsuit, an analyst has a $4 target. If they are successful in the lawsuit, it could add another $1.25 to the stock.

BUY

This is his 8th largest holding. Use satellites for communications, allowing communications with airplanes at the extreme poles as well as in the Caribbean section. Received approval from FAA for garden-variety carriers. Currently looking for approval with Airbus to install devices as new equipment into their fleet. If successful, this will become a recurring revenue story.

BUY

(Market Call Minute.) Have just produced some decent earnings. Customers are using their products to make more money for the phone companies themselves in addition to their core business of deep packet inspection.

COMMENT

(Market Call Minute.) Basically a massive free cash flow generating company. Involved in handsets and central office stuff. Ranks 200 in his model. Good company and reasonable cash flow but not a strong buy at this point.

HOLD

(Market Call Minute.) They fly over oil/gas pipelines to check for leaks. Business is improving. Still not profitable. Signing some interesting contracts.

HOLD

(Market Call Minute.) Education in language skills. Have announced some recent acquisitions. Still lots of growth opportunities for them.

N/A

Markets. Government shutdown & debt ceiling is all noise. His clients are up this month. Clearly good news for Canada as it is smarter this time. Looks like the plan is to do an increase short term for the debt ceiling. A good business is a good business. He is 100% invested. Stocks are the best place to be and he is also in some bonds and convertible shares. You cannot be in cash. Valuations on companies he is interested in are very constructive. Stay away from emerging markets because they have not done well, although he likes companies that have some exposure to emerging markets. He stays away from gold, base and precious metals as well as resources. Avoid anything with a PE over 15 or 20. He increased US exposure to 30%.

STRONG BUY

Depends completely on weather. It has started snowing. They are looking at pushing the opening a few weeks early because of weather. There has not been a problem in 20 years in terms of weather. He would be more concerned with the economy. As it improves and as Cad$ goes down, there will be more demand. This company is like a toll road on leisure. Dividend is 7% and he sees it increasing. It is a dividend, not a REIT distribution. Thinks it will get taken out.

BUY

Small apartment REIT. Terrific investment. Attractive apartments in Ontario and Montreal. Growing diversification. They announced a stock buyback. The only apartment REIT he owns. He has a 5% REIT exposure.

COMMENT

A wonderful, interesting company. He owns the convertible debentures. Annuity-style revenues. Not dirt cheap but they have a nice yield. He likes the bond offering but does not recommend the common stock.

BUY

He owns a series of rate reset shares. If they are trading below $25 then the market thinks they won’t be called. They are fairly illiquid. They have not recovered since the announcement of tapering and may be a good investment.

BUY

Telecom Policy. Does not know what’s happening in terms of government policy. He is glad the US guys decided not to come to Canada. Thinks there is more room to recover.
