BUY ON WEAKNESS
Oil weighted, primarily heavy oil. Great place to be on a long-term perspective. Has had a pretty good run up so would wait before buying. Great assets.
WAIT
A little bit early for the oilfield service plays. Expect there will be a little bit of weakness going through the summer, which would be a better opportunity. Longer-term it is well positioned.
BUY
Has some good upside. Have access to low cost CMHC financing. Their business tends to be stable. Just had a change in CEO’s and the new one is more operationally focused. Comfortable with the 14.6% yield.
BUY
Looking very cheap right now. There is some concern about the distribution but she is comfortable they will be able to maintain the 21% yield. Edmonton Power has announced another spin out of another entity, which raised the question of what was going to happen to this one.
WATCH
Would be a little bit patient as there could be a bit of a pullback. Pretty safe revenue stream because it is a royalty but is very much predicated on iron ore contracts, which have not been settled for this year yet. Wait for some clarity on this.
DON'T BUY
Oil shortages are going to start to kick in pretty soon because of major cutbacks in drilling and production. Supply crunch is coming next. He would not be short oil or any commodity right now.
BUY
Fertilizers and their market is mostly in China. Has been looking at this one and really likes it. Trading at a nice discount to its intrinsic value. Likes food and the emerging markets.
SELL
He is very cautious on coal. US will be imposing a huge tax on the energy complex and coal will be affected.
BUY
Likes most, if not all, Canadian oil companies. Important to have a longer-term outlook and understanding of Canadian oil patch. Be aware of the geopolitical problems such as Pakistan and the Middle East. Canada is the only place with rich, political free oil.
COMMENT
Likes this, but is a little bit cautious on it. Long-term it is a great hold. If you own, you could add a little bit here, otherwise wait. Almost 7% yield.
WAIT
Long-term it is a great hold. He is a little bit cautious on it at the moment. He owns some and will be adding to it when the signals are right.
DON'T BUY
Thinks it is early for uranium. The problem is, it takes a long time to build a nuclear plant.
TOP PICK
There are 6.5 billion people in the world and there is 1.5 months supply of grain and we are using up 99% of arable land. Long-term play.
TOP PICK
4.75% bond maturing June/30/12. Great balance sheet. They have a refinery, and he loves refineries. Looking for 110% appreciation on the capital.
TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Nov 28/08. Up 1.34%.) US 30-year bond bear ETF. 2X leverage. Gives negative participation on the bond market. As yields go up, this appreciates. Thinks he will hold this long-term.
