He's a big fan of Warren Buffett's philosophy. During this pandemic, Buffett hasn't done any buying, just waiting it out and watching for the long-term impacts of this pandemic. This company is in a pretty good position, well-run and diversified and sitting on a pile of cash. BRK has lagged the markets, so now is a buying opportunity.

DON'T BUY
They have such a storied history in the market and have done very well long term. Short-term they haven't performed as well though. They've gotten so large that they can invest in only the biggest stocks. Recently, they dumped all their airline shares. The bloom is off the rose. He'd avoid them for the next while, though he admires them.

DON'T BUY
The overhang worries of Warren Buffet's longevity, could cause a sizable share price drop if he passes. His ability to move the stock price, because of the sizable portfolio, is making it increasingly challenging for the company to match historic gains. He struggles to suggest this is as a good buy.

DON'T BUY
Does not pay dividends. It is not a great holding, compared to the S&P or the DOW or a basket of high dividend payers. It will go down as much in a recession as other equities.

HOLD
Warren Buffet is still the best investor of all time. However, it has become too big to have investments move the needle. A good blue-chip holding, but don't expect it to out perform the market.

COMMENT
As an insurance company, take the premiums and reinvest in a diversified portfolio. Buying this, you have to have a lot of confidence in management. They've been prudent in the past.
insurance
HOLD
Long term this will be a great holding. A holding company of many different companies, providing good diversification.

BUY
It could be a replacement for some US exposure. It now gives you a little more tech. You can buy it and hold it. They are good stewards of capital. You need to diversify it with other sectors.
insurance
BUY
You own a terrific operating business, a re-insurance business, but BRK invests--not in bonds--but first-class companies to make a lot more money. They own, for example American Express and Delta Airlines. They haven't lost their touch and good successors are waiting.
insurance
DON'T BUY
He thinks the issues are that Warren is getting older and there is concern about his replacement. He sees the large cash holding right now is signalling another acquisition soon. He thinks there are a lot of other companies that offer dividends. He would pass on this today.
insurance
BUY
Well-diversified and Warren Buffet is a very good investor. Includes Wells Fargo and Coke, which are strong, defensive names. There's a sucession issue, but the team is good. Succession will be a short-term issue only; Buffet is probably prepared. You can own this for a long time.

COMMENT

He does not watch this presently for a sell target. He liked owning it so he can attend the Nebraska annual meeting. One of the risks is when Warren and Charlie pass on – what is their plan for succession? He sold it at a nice profit.

COMMENT

Who can afford the A shares? So, buy the B shares instead which are around $200. Maybe Warren Buffet has never split the A shares because he thinks if you want to buy his company, then you just buy it. This forces investors to be long-term holders and not trading his shares. As for succession, he's elevated two people to vice-chair, one running insurance, the other energy. He's been astute, such as buying heavily into names he's loved during 2008. He'll be less involved in owning public shares.

insurance
BUY

A very large conglomerate with multi-industry exposure, but it is well-run. A great long-term hold. You can’t really go wrong with it.

COMMENT

This has actually underperformed the S&P 500 over the last 3 years. Year-to-date however, the shares have outperformed and are about 6% better than the S&P. In the last few years, in a growth environment, this has underperformed. On a go forward basis, it might make a lot of sense. It really depends on whether we are truly going back into a Value-based environment versus a growth environment.
