(A Top Pick Mar 20/07. Down 19%.) Sales have been pretty steady but hasn’t grown as expected partly because of weakness in the US housing sector. Sold his holdings.
Specialty mattress retailer in Canada. Very stable business. Margins are very good. Good management. Payout ratio has been decreasing since they started and is now 75%. Just acquired a US company and a Quebec company. We'll be spending capital to increase market share which could result in some selloff of shares. Opportune time to buy.
The best management team that you can buy in retailing in the income trust space. Fantastic track record of delivering consistent things to the sales growth area. Has done well in fending off competition from some big names. Now moving into the US market.
Mattresses are big-ticket items. A recession resistant type of business. Management always under promises and over delivers on their financial results. Payout ratio has decreased since their IPO to about 75%. Will probably expense some costs because of their Quebec acquisition.
(A Top Pick April 21/06. Down 2%.) A dormant time for news coming out. They have a lot of things going on in the background. Expects a lot of growth over the next year. Good management.
Expanding into the US. Probably fairly valued here. EBITDA is about 9. Management is excellent. This trust is cash taxable. Wait for a pullback before buying.
Likes as a growth more than as an income trust. Has a spectacular record of growth, primarily from adding new stores and increasing same-store sales. Made a Quebec acquisition, which will be expanded rapidly. Also one in Phoenix Arizona, giving them expansion in the US. Particularly attractive price wise.
Very strong marketing business. Very focused on what they do. Great customer service. Acquired a company in Arizona, which may take a while but should do well.
Facing a lot of competition from online businesses. Classic retail brick and mortar story. They are moving now to online. They have a good distribution set up. This move might take them out of the dog house. Worth a closer look.
