The Canadian inventory numbers today were quite bullish for gas. ECA-T has more exposure to US gas, however. It is a reasonable investment for the long term.

It is a steel distributor with operations in Canada and the US. They distribute whether steel prices are high or low but can get caught when prices move too quickly. A good long term hold.
DON'T BUY
Over a number of years are making a transition from coal to natural gas fired power plants. He would prefer to look at the renewables or NPI-T.
COMMENT
A mid-cap producer. They reduced their capital budget yesterday as a reflection on prices. He'd like to see them reduce their debt even more.
DON'T BUY
Involved in a duopoly in Canada. They bought a maple syrup company and debt levels went up. Sugar in Canada is a slow growth business and he is concerned about their payout ratio.
BUY
This would be a good entry point. They process natural gas, taking out hydrogen, water and methane. They have US operations and storage facilities. They have a conservative balance sheet and a history of raising their dividend. It is well run.
WEAK BUY
Railroads. CNR-T vs. CP-T. Railroads are a great industry. A duopoly in Canada. CP-T is the more profitable operator and he favours it.

A lot of the forestry stocks had a correction in December. OSB-T have operations in the UK also. He can't comment on the sustainability of the dividend but if you want torque and believe housing will re-accelerate, then this would be a name to buy.

Yesterday they released sales figures and they were not as robust as some were expecting. He is kicking the tires hard on it now.

They make semiconductor equipment, but not semiconductors. He thinks an inventory drag will get worked out in the second quarter. It is a good buying opportunity.

They are more into cedar and it is not a commodity. A slowdown in the economy will cause reduced cedar usage. In the $2 range it is very attractive.

He is encouraged by the new CEO's moves in the last year. They get a good chunk of earnings form wealth management in Asia. He could potentially add to it in the future.
