PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Sep 04/18, Down 5%) It's industrials and utilities in water. He's not surprised this is under water because industrials are down. As climate change worsens, governments will need to invest heavily in water infrastructure (due to flooding and drought). He has no problem adding to his position.
TOP PICK

Global warming means water is precious, and governments will invest in water infrastructure. This sector will do really well as global warming increases.

DON'T BUY

The problem for this ETF is that it is not a pure play. A little of a dog’s breakfast. Not interested in this.

COMMENT

An infrastructure play, and the sort of thing that if you believe long-term that infrastructure is going to do fairly well, this is pretty safe. With all infrastructure plays, you are not going to get the massive sexy returns that you get in certain other things, but you are also a lot less likely to see a down number.

PAST TOP PICK

(Top Pick Mar 17/15, Up 1.28%) You need desalination and so on around the world. The need is great. He got out over the last two or three weeks to go into a fund that just came out.

COMMENT

He has tended to ignore the sector, but some people are highly recommending the water sector. He doesn’t know the individual components stocks of this one. It has done well, so he is going to have a look at this.

HOLD

From October until now it has been increasing and has not had the same volatility. It broke above its high of 2014. This is a pretty good chart. It is a good hold, although there could be weakness ahead.

TOP PICK

Water. This is the usual pipelines, sewers, desalinization plants, etc. Only about 1% of the world’s water is fresh water, and even some of that is starting to melt. This is going to be a really important play down the road, because there are parts of the world that do not have access to clean water. It is going to become more and more of a geopolitical issue.

DON'T BUY

He has never really liked theme stocks. Water stuff was very popular a couple years ago and it didn't do anything. Feels the only reason it went up is because a rising tide lifts all boats. He doesn't see any reason to be in this.

PAST TOP PICK

(A Top Pick Sept 13/13. Up 21.66%.) ETF on water related companies. This is a big, long-term trend. Half of this is utilities and half of it is water purification equipment manufacturers. This is one that you can stick in your bottom drawer for 5 years and it will do very nicely.

TOP PICK

Water is a $500 billion business and growing 7% per year, double the rate of GDP growth. As emerging middle class come to the cities, they want fresh, clean water and our aging infrastructure needs to be repaired. Pays a 2.27% dividend yield and has raised this dividend by about 7% a year. Good play on the longer-term theme.

DON'T BUY
S&P Global Water ETF. Not something he would be interested in.
BUY
If you like water, globally. The amount of genuinely fresh water in the world is less than 1% of the supply. Long term (longer than one year) it is a good hold, driven by supply and demand.
BUY
S&P Global Water ETF. Had a big selloff in June but has rebounded nicely since then. Will be mostly infrastructure plays.
PAST TOP PICK
(Top Pick Oct 9/09, Down 2%) He wasn’t wrong - he was early. Water is one of the most basic commodities around.
