Northern Dynasty Minerals Ltd (NDM-T) has a complicated history, particularly concerning its relationships with local communities. There is significant concern regarding their previous legal battles, which included an expensive $80 million dispute with a First Nations band. Experts emphasize the need for the company to improve its community relations before attracting investment. However, there is potential for the company, especially if it can successfully engage with indigenous group members. The current political climate under the Trump administration is highlighted as a possible advantage, suggesting that strategic engagement might offer the company unique opportunities despite its past issues.

Gold, copper and molybdenum in Alaska. Doesn’t expect this to be a takeover because it has, at the operating level, Anglo-American which has spent $500 million going on $1.5 billion to stay in. You also have Rio Tinto owning 19%. He is hoping that the US Army Core of engineers advances its studies around Sept/Oct this year. Most of the analysts have given up on this one.

DON'T BUY

This is a company that will have a very tough time this cycle. Has a large deposit and the deposit has very good grade but it will take an awful lot of money to build it and there is a lot of political and environmental opposition. It may get built in the next cycle, 10 years from now.

COMMENT

Gold, copper and molybdenum in Alaska. Firmly believes they will overcome their environmental obstacles and in September/October this year there will be a big step forward of a mine planned and the US Army engineer taking it further down the road in the permitting process. Very cheap.

COMMENT

Chart shows it was in an extremely oversold position and is now rallying back. There is probably some resistance in the mid-$6’s so he thinks you have a little ways to go yet. The sector is favourable. If it breaks through $7, there is nothing until it gets to $12.

COMMENT

Has recently added to his holdings. There is a general view that this mine, one of the greatest globally, will never get built. Project in Alaska is being blocked by a very rich resident in the area. Thinks that both development and opposition goes ahead but eventually will go ahead.

TOP PICK
Has been hit by the resources market. There is a man in Fairbanks Alaska who has a cottage in the area and is enduring the development of this most important copper mine. You have to take the view that, at some point, it will get done.
COMMENT
Molybdenum, copper and gold. Low-grade deposit but very large in size. The grade is too low for her liking. Prefers others.
DON'T BUY
Have a project in Alaska called Pebble. This is a massive, massive copper deposit. Very controversial because of environmental issues and stock price indicates they are not going to get it approved.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
Good example of what happens when a stock goes too far. Broke out of a major congestion area late 2010 and ran up all the way to $22. You have to use stop losses all the way to be sure you don’t give it all back. Probably starting to be a point to get in now but could take a little bit more time. $11 is not a bad place to get in.
DON'T BUY
There is nothing company-specific that is wrong. In the small cap mining there has been a lot of risk that has come off the table. Two companies have been talked about as possibly wanting to take this one out, but he would not buy this stock expecting this any time soon. He can’t model the risks on this one so stays away from it.
PAST TOP PICK
(Top Pick Jan 21/10, Up 57.24%) It’s been down. Giant copper mining region of Alaska. Still recommends this one.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
Largest undeveloped copper/gold project in the world today and is based in Alaska. Some controversy because of an active environmental issue. Long-term would be a significant buyer, particularly on any weakness.
TOP PICK
Alaska. Well-known name. Worried about general correction going on, but since this company hasn’t achieved anything, he expects increases eventually.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Oct 24/08. Up 211.67%.)
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Oct 24/08. Up 220.8%.) Largest Undeveloped copper/gold deposit globally.
