COMMENT
India bank. If you are in emerging markets, you really want to buy financial institutions or a telecom type company. One percent dividend. A better way to buy India would be through and ETF. Can be very volatile.
COMMENT
Indian banks have fantastic growth profiles in terms of adding to their own books. This one also has a very attractive insurance business. Growth is reflected in the current price and there is good upside if your outlook is 5 years. He is wary of emerging markets generally at these levels. If you own, consider taking some profits.
BUY
If you are going to invest in developing countries, it is good to own a bank as they are the bedrock of the country and will grow with GDP. However, they can be fairly volatile. For a longer term, it makes a lot of sense.
DON'T BUY
Sold his position Nov/07. Looking at it again, but there are problems in India. Government reduced the amount of capital that banks could lend, which will hurt their earnings in the near term. Has some subprime exposure. Have geopolitical risks with Pakistan.
DON'T BUY
(Market Call Minute.) Would consider buying in the $15-$20 range.
COMMENT
Doesn't own this one, as it is primarily a valuation issue. They are having some difficulties but no more than many of the other banks.
HOLD
Global Bank, second largest in India. Emerging market exposure.
DON'T BUY
Inflation in India is running close to 11% right now. The government is trying to hold back on lending practices for the banks and this is bringing down the PE multiple. $15-$17 might be a decent entry point.
BUY
Indian bank. Has been volatile. Not a cheap bank. The interesting thing is that it is in an emerging market that is growing at 8% to 10% a year. Have very few investment products. It will continue to do well. You have to think of this in a 10-year cycle.
DON'T BUY
Doesn’t seem to have any sub prime issues. Her rule of thumb on banks is to look for those with 2X Price to Book. This one is getting there. Not sure interest rate increases in India are over and this will have negative consequences on lending growth.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
(Market Call Minute.) If it gets below $30, it's worth buying.
COMMENT
He would be looking at this again if it got a little bit lower, into the $30's. Sold his holdings in November.
WATCH
A retail bank. In the last little while is starting to look good from an investment point of view. Getting close to an entry point.
WAIT
It will get interesting again once it gets around the $30 range. The Indian stock market is down 25%.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
This is a great Indian bank. Were not as involved in a lot of the subprime issues as others.
