An ETF for a retiree? It's tricky to pick one. If just one, take a conservative ETF, like iShares's CBD-T's balanced portfolio (50% bonds, 50% stocks). iShares is a good product. 1.87% MER.

Global Balanced Income ETF. Holds several ETFs in a single ETF fund. This is a good idea. Fees are a little bit high. Good product for the smaller investor, especially those having difficulty deciding which ETF.

Global Balanced Income ETF. Does he like the regular rebalancing of the asset allocations? Thinks this is one of those managed core portfolio things, not a straight bond ETF. Think the MER's are getting up around the 75 basis points. Doesn't particularly like these but nothing particularly wrong with them.
