Laura Lau Baffinland Iron Mines Corp. BIM-T DON'T BUY Oct 13, 2009

Iron ore prices are firming up but the problem with this company longer-term is that they have to raise billions of dollars. At the current price, that's a lot of dilution. Because it is so far north there are a lot of technological issues including building an icebreaker that has never been built before.

COMMENT
Have a great iron or deposit in the far north with an infrastructure around the facility so that ore can be shipped out. The problem is that currently the iron ore market is well supplied. A company like this has to bite through the next couple of years until they get their project into production with higher demand. (See Top Picks.)
COMMENT
Iron ore resource on Baffin Island. This is a play on the global material cycle. Benefited last year because of the scarcity of the resource. Good management and the mine will get built. Good “long term” investment but can’t see a snap back immediately. Could be a takeover target.
HOLD
(Market Call Minute.) Trying to find a partner for a $4 billion project.
DON'T BUY
Company that is great for a raging bull market. High grade huge deposit but so far up north that it becomes a problem. We are not in a raging bull so would not want to be in it.
DON'T BUY
You don’t have the power and the labour required. Logistically, it’s stressed.
BUY
A warrant is a long dated call option. He really likes this stock. Warrants are a good buy here.
COMMENT
One of the largest undeveloped high-grade iron ore resources globally. Looking for a partner for a couple of years. President recently left, probably a sign of a failure to find one.
COMMENT
Just had 2nd takeover offer. If he owned, he would be tempted to Sell.
HOLD
Company is being acquired. Being stolen so if you own he would wait to see if anything else comes along before tendering to the offer.
