BUY
Loves this one for the long haul. Also loves the 4.52% dividend and its increases. Has about the best credit in Canada.
COMMENT
Has come up along with all the other base metal companies and the big wild card is what the US decides to do about Cuba.
COMMENT
This is one of the banks that came through the banking crisis in relatively good shape. Didn't engage in a lot of the dubious practices of derivative securities and swaps. One of the better bets of the larger US banks.
BUY
Has come up nicely.
COMMENT
His favourite in golds is Barrick (ABX-T) especially since they eliminated their hedges.
BUY
Has some real upside, particularly now that the hedges are gone.
DON'T BUY
Went into the pulp bleach chemicals just before the pulp industry went into hard times. Then went into building products just before the building industry fell to pieces. Have maintained a dividend even though they are now a Corporation. If the building industry in the US picks up that would be helpful.
HOLD
Expanding into China and he thinks it will be hard work for them. Chinese like banking with the Chinese. The Harris Bank in Chicago is a bit of a millstone around their neck. Pretty good dividend.
BUY
Earnings are coming out tomorrow and the forecast is around $1 a share and 41% growth in revenue. He worries about Apple (AAPL-Q), Palm (PALM-Q) and all the other phone companies, all of who recognize that they need a more capable Internet device so the space is going to get more crowded. Only trading at 20X earnings versus their old 40X.
COMMENT
Basically flat lined from where it was in January. 8% dividend yield is not at risk. Not his favourite because he doesn't see where the growth is going to come from but it is an attractive dividend. (See Top Picks.)
BUY
For a five-year hold it is not a bad choice. One of the concerns he had when going into the recession was that the number of transactions would go down and people would be losing their credit cards.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
Was drilling for zinc but hit gold in tremendous concentrations. A terrific strike in northern Manitoba. Developing a mine takes a lot of money and a lot of time. Doesn't know what gold prices will be when they eventually develop the mine. There is a potential for that to be a takeover target. We prefer to buy it at $9-$10.
COMMENT
Doesn't think anybody has any idea of what is going on in this company. A completely black box as far as investments go. A speculation, not an investment.
SELL
(Market Call Minute.) They're concerned about oversupply of natural gas.
DON'T BUY
(Market Call Minute.) If you are going to play agriculture, play the big boys. Either Potash (POT-T) or Agrium (AGU-T).
