Cameron Hurst United Parcel Services UPS-N DON'T BUY Oct 03, 2019

UPS-N had some interesting news with the FFA approval of their drone delivery business. FDX-N is a few PE multiple points cheaper. UPS has had a positive trend change. FDX has been pulling back again. He prefers UPS if you had to. But neither one is really doing well. Global growth is the most important indicator for both companies and it is not favourable.

DON'T BUY

Not a good option. Turnarounds seldom work out. No growth or capital appreciation in business. High capital requirements. Not a great business model. Better options available for investors in the markets.

BUY

She just bought it. Unlike last year, their labour negotiations are now out of the way, earnings will grow 15-20% into 2026 and trades at a low 14x PE. Even if earnings are only 10%, she'll take it at that PE. It pays a fine 4.8% dividend.

DON'T BUY
Trades at 17x forward earnings.

Guided down in a very competitive space. Down 34% over 3 years. Consumers are slowing down, and this may significantly hurt volumes.

WEAK BUY

It is OK for a long term play and pays a dividend. Everyone uses it so it is a safe investment but not very exciting. What happens if the U.S. economy slows down.

DON'T BUY

It's gone down so much and there's more fear heading into the holiday season. You get the 5% dividend yield, but share remain too expensive.

BUY

A dividend pick for 2025. Is down a lot from their highs. A contrarian play. It pays around a 5% dividend yield. It trades at a reasonable valuation and offers decent earnings growth in 2025 of 5-7%. Collect the dividend and enjoy a little capital appreciation on top. You won't shoot the lights out, but you can relax with this steady earner.

WEAK BUY

Leans more domestic. Very profitable, historical 20% ROE. Very good dividend and historically stable, though payout ratio is getting uncomfortably high so be careful. Good growth. Lots of opportunity to enhance efficiencies.

DON'T BUY

Is -16% the past year, and yields 5%. After reading an article today about UPS, he'd rather buy FedEx.
