Owns 65% of Acasti Pharma (APO-X) which is in phase 2 trials of its drug CaPre. As those things come out, this is a market that historically has been as big as $20 billion of sales when Lipitor was pre-generic. Thinks this will be a category killer and will be taken over by one of the big pharmas once they get into phase 3 trials. Also have a small base business selling products that health-food stores call Neptune Krill Oil, which produces a nice cash flow.
They basically take krill (small shrimp), extracts the oil from them which is then used to reduce cholesterol in a natural way. There is a potential for combining their product with conventional statins for different methodology. Analysts are expecting this company will lose $0.15 for the Feb/14 year and another $0.02 a year later. Interesting opportunity but not profitable for the foreseeable future.
Had trouble selling fishy tasting product but have resolved that. It is a bit of a concept stock. Be careful the valuation does not get out of whack with what they are able to deliver.
