Air Canada (AC-T) has garnered mixed reviews from experts, reflecting the volatility and unpredictability of the airline industry. Several analysts emphasize its potential for long-term gains, citing a strong recovery in passenger demand and strategic international routes as positive indicators. However, concerns persist regarding the impact of high fuel prices, geopolitical tensions, and labor disputes. While some see significant upside potential due to its current valuation being lower than historical norms and its U.S. counterparts, others express skepticism about its operational efficiency and competitive standing. The recent announcements of direct international routes and a growing cash reserve position contribute to a cautiously optimistic outlook, yet analysts urge vigilance due to the cyclical nature and inherent risks within the airline sector.

BUY
With lower oil prices they should have a better outlook for the quarter. However you are probably looking at declining numbers in terms of capacity utilization. Did a good job in moving up to more efficient aircraft and closing down routes that no longer made sense.
COMMENT
In the last quarter, they made a lot of money out of derivatives. Made a profit, but basically on hedging of fuel. Very solid company in this space. Have to do something with Ace Aviation, which is a big holding. Expect they will dividend it out and unwind the company. If the economy turns around, you could have a nice move.
COMMENT
Oil has a major impact on this stock. Their energy consumption was up $220 million. If you think oil is going to drop to $80, the stock will have good torque behind it.
DON'T BUY
This is a horrible industry. Even Westjet (WJA-T), which is a well-managed company, is not a stock she would buy. If oil should drop to $100, the stocks will have a good bounce.
BUY
When oil stocks move up, airline stocks tend to weaken. Outlook for the airline industry is pretty positive. For the short term, it is fine.
