Market. Is this just an aggressive tactic that Trump is taking or is it the beginning of what people feared when it look like Trump would be president. Maybe it is a negotiating tactic. Trade anxiety is going to filter into the market and he does not think it is priced in yet. It would be hard for the markets to make new highs right now.

DON'T BUY

ZPR-T vs. HPR-T. HPR-T is actively managed whereas the other is a laddered, index ETF. The HPR-T is probably a better hold even though the fees are higher.

Educational Segment. Volatility and uncertainty in political events around the world. The commentary on the Italian elections was all about uncertainty. The key test is whether the market can make a new high in the next few months. We still have the risk of more volatility and of retesting the recent lows. There is not a strong reason to price in a recession right now.

RISKY

It looks from the chart like the stock is breaking out. In 2011 and 2014 there were spikes. He does not know what is causing the current one. It is a speculative move and probably does not have a lot of longevity in it.

BUY ON WEAKNESS

His favourite way to play Europe. France, Germany and The UK are the highest holdings. It still gives you the yield even though the price has dropped off. He would like to buy more if it drops another 10%.

BUY

REML-N is a leveraged play on mortgage REITs in the US. There is definitely a concern with AMZN-Q. He is looking to exit on strength. He would not ever recommend it for a long term hold either.

BUY ON WEAKNESS

It went sideways in 2017. There was almost no reaction today to a change in the CEO. It is not an expensive stock right now. You could buy closer to the recent lows.

DON'T BUY

He is concerned about commodity stocks getting obliterated if a recession comes. He would be very cautious trading it here, maybe buying some dips.

BUY

Floating rate notes will do far better in a recession than high yield. FRN-N and HFR-T are good examples.

BUY

He likes what they are trying to do with these new products. This is the traditional 60/40 balance. It has 22 basis points’ cost. For a passive investor he would give it a thumbs up.

Market. There are two types of gold owners. (a) a hedge and (b) investors looking at risk/return tradeoffs. US debt is still increasing and gold is a hedge against the failure of the currency. In 20% draw downs in the markets, gold goes up. Equity markets continue to rise and this distracts people from gold.

WEAK BUY

It has been hit by a few negative events. A write-down on an asset, for example. The impact to them is not that great, however. Also a mine came out with a lower grade than expected. It is okay to own but is relatively expensive. Sandstorm (SSL-T) is his preference in a royalty company.

DON'T BUY

Zinc, Copper commodities did well this year. You have to make a call on Met coal, however, with this stock. If the price stays where it is then the stock is a screaming buy. But he sees the coal price coming off. China may restrict imports.

BUY

They put out a resource and the shares have fallen back. It is an economic resource and quite impressive. The difficulty is how to mine it. They need to add more oz. and mine them economically. But it is a good name to own.
