COMMENT
Market. Just saw statistics that indicated despite the volatility last week, Bulls went from 47.3% to 46.2% and Bears didn't tick higher. This indicates complacency in this market where people are assuming things will ultimately go higher but there are some risks in the market right now. The interest is in yield rather than in capital appreciation.
HOLD
When precious metals move higher, some producers do not follow. Today is a day when people are taking down risk exposure. Big concerns are the macro concerns in the market. On a relative basis, this stock has been behaving much better than the market.
COMMENT
Finning (FTT-T) or Toromont (TIH-T) for long-term growth and dividends? This area is a little tough right now. Industrial equipment has been pretty beaten up in the last few weeks. He would prefer Finning, which has the oil Sands in Alberta as well as South America where they have a ton of mining. Toromont more focused on Ontario so there is some mining they can focus on but it is more construction, etc.

BUY
Manufactures jet engine parts. We are in a long cycle of replacement for aircraft. Supplies both Boeing (BA-N) and Airboss (BOS-T). Good support around $140. Very strong earnings.
BUY
Great dividend. Very steady cash flow. Have done a great job in restructuring. Telecom is a sector where he would be buying stocks right now.
COMMENT
Gold. Looks like it is going higher and is benefiting from the current environment. Prefers physical gold to producers. Costs of bringing in new mines have gone up and increasing gold prices have not offset this. His preferences are Yamana (YRI), Eldorado (ELD-T), Allied Nevada (ANV-T) and Kirkland Lake (KGI-T).
DON'T BUY
After the first rally in 2009, he has been very cautious and negative on financials, specifically investment banks. All the major parts of these businesses are challenged. Concerns around credits continue to be an issue.
DON'T BUY
In the short run, there are some risks on energy so you need to be a little bit cautious. He is not in any of the majors that do not pay dividends. Recently sold his holdings in this company. Prefers others.
DON'T BUY
We have been going through an economic recovery and this period is beginning to look like the 70s where there are shorter recoveries followed up with cyclical declines in the market. He has been reducing his exposure to economically sensitive companies.

TOP PICK
(Recent IPO.) Midstream in the energy world. Trucking and propane. Likes this group because he knows there will be continued growth and activity. Yield of just under 6% and that will grow steadily.
TOP PICK
One of a handful of consumer goods companies that has pricing power and global growth. Growing very nicely in Asia and growing the best right now in Europe and are winning market share in the US. Margins are expanding. They own all the properties that their stores are on, which they rent to their franchisees. Huge free cash flow and they keep buying back stock.
TOP PICK
Believes that this is a shortened economic cycle that is probably running out of gas. This is quite an oversold market and is looking for a 2 to 3 months rally in the fall that sets up an opportunity for people to reposition their portfolios. He is only about 50% invested right now.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Aug 9/10. Up 10.69%.)
