BUY
An oil company, but there is also a chemical component in this company. As the price of oil advances, that is going to help the advances of oil stocks. Chinese economy is likely to grow at an 8/8.5% for the next decade on a compound basis. Good opportunities. Prefers China National Offshore Oil Company i.e CNOOC (CEO-N).

Today’s subject is International Markets and very few North American stocks are being discussed. Because we only cover North American Exchanges, this is the reason for the short listing today. Top Picks and Past Top Picks where on foreign exchanges, so nothing to show. SORRY!
WEAK BUY
The price of aluminum hasn't started to struggle a lot and demand continues to be out there. Might be getting a little bit toppy at this stage. Likes their Pechene acquisition. Price of energy will cause them concern.
BUY
This and Shell out of the UK will be getting together in the next little while. A fine integrated company operating out of the Netherlands. Has had a reasonable move over the last 1 1/2 years.
HOLD
Had a very strong move about 3 or 4 years ago and the stock backed off to around a pound (U.K.) 6/8 months ago which is when he got in. Has been an excellent telco.
BUY
Nickel is a commodity that is very much in favour these days. If you put together nickel, iron ore and some other reactions together, that forms stainless steel which is very big in infrastructure which is very big in China along with re-builds in some of the other markets.
BUY
One of the world's giants in consumer electronics. Very fine company. Starting to see the old stodgy management change. There's an American who's running it now.
DON'T BUY
A steel company operating out of South Korea. One of the cheapest steel producers in the world. They are benefiting by all the infrastructure plays that are going on right now. The price has moved up very smartly so be a little cautious at these levels.
WATCH
There was a lot of scepticism about a Canadian company buying American assets, but they are very good at managing assets. Basically they have taken underperforming stores and they have a big job to integrate the organizations. They are part way along in the process. If they can show that they can improve sales/margins, interest in the stock will pick up.
WAIT
Look at what's going on in the peer group. Oil sector has been one of the strongest over the last 18/24 months. We are now getting a classic correction pull back. The trend is still intact in oils, but the small and mid caps are going to pull back more than the large.
DON'T BUY
The steel stocks as a group have reversed down on his quantitative models which tells him that the risk level is rising. There is risk in this area. For now, they are into consolidations, seasonally these companies can have a consolidation through the summer. Could trade sideways or drop further.
TOP PICK
For the last 8 weeks, there has been a distinct lack of leadership and the strength that had been in metals and energy isn't as prevalent and there hasn't been anything to take its place. We're 31 months into this cyclical bull market. That's getting long in the tooth without having some kind of meaningful correction. Cash is 20% in Canada and 40% in the US.
DON'T BUY
Semi-conductor group has underperformed. Has been a lot of damage to a lot of stocks. The basic issue is that there is not a lot of pricing power. Demand for semi-conductors are expected to be lower this year. Only 30% of companies are trending higher meaning there are not a lot of buyers and that the sell off is getting to lower levels. Would prefer a company thet is trading against the highs in a very weak sector.
DON'T BUY
What happens in the US ultimately works its way into the Canadian market. US banks are having a very difficult time and are down about 7% year to date. Canadian banks have had good yield support, but they really are not making a lot of headway. They are basically trading sideways.
