Bitcoin is a tradable asset class that has a real value of zero for him. For those who don't mind volatility, it could be good for those investors. However, he does not understand how to value it. Last week, it topped $58,000. First off, Bitcoin is a digital currency, meaning that it's not a physical coin, but a currency that exists in a public ledger nestled in a network of computers and accessed through through a series of passwords, like keys that open a bank vault. Bitcoin in general He doesn't think this will ever be a transaction currency. For a portfolio, Bitcoin is an alternative investment. He's wary of Bitcoin, so less clear in pricing and origination. It's too much in crime, money laundering and tax evasion. He'd much rather own gold bullion--it's tangible, has a history and he know what it operates.
