WATCH

Really great run till beginning of this year, sideways since then. Double top around $350, tested pretty significant resistance, started to roll down.

Support around $275-300. $300 is a big round number; often if you see those get breached it can have a significant impact on investor psychology. People also use big round numbers for stop losses, triggering selling. So keep an eye on that.

COMMENT
Using RSI.

He looks at RSI to give him an idea of how a stock's performing relative to its peers and to the overall market. Can also use it to compare it to whatever index it's a member of.

WATCH

From end of 2022, markets have gone up. But this stock has gone nowhere, underperforming rest of market. Finally peaked up above $100, and now down. If start to see it get to $100-105, could be interesting technically.

Watch for whether it pops above resistance for just a couple of days, or does it go above resistance and stay there?

HOLD

Long-term underperformer and base-building, recently broke out. Resistance levels started to fall, one by one. Then big pop on earnings. One of the top-ranked stocks on RSI in the US universe, acting extremely well. Quite well supported, even through the correction of last week.

COMMENT
Still prioritizing momentum as a key factor for outperformance?

When you get into market corrections, is not necessarily upward momentum, but what goes down less. Those stocks that go down less have more underlying support, people are still willing to step in and defend them.

PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Jun 20/24, Up 1%)

(Note the short timeframe.) Compared to the rest of the market, held up fairly well. Top 10 within his US relative strength universe. Still winning most of the battles against other US large-cap companies and the Mag 7. Now at the top of the Mag 7 group on RSI.

PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Jun 20/24, Down 14%)

(Note the short timeframe.) Sold a couple of weeks ago after earnings, technicals deteriorated rapidly. Plus, everything went against the sector and EV exposure all at once.

PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Jun 20/24, Up 3%)

(Note the short timeframe.) RSI analysis lets you ride your winners. This one is #2 ranked on RSI in his large-cap Canadian universe. Held well through the correction of last week.

WATCH

In the TSX 60 index, has come up a bit in RSI rankings from #60, tied with Rogers at #55. Telecom, in general, has struggled for quite some time. Chart's broken out of a downtrend, nice pickup above $45. Took out $47.50, would look great if it breaks $49.50-50 (first resistance), but still in his red zone (the lower half).

Looking more encouraging now that it's started to climb up off the bottom.

COMMENT
Response of different rate-sensitive sectors to 2 rate cuts in Canada.

It is interesting, in that real estate has picked up but telcos haven't really gone anywhere. Utilities have been kind of in the middle, but not doing as well as real estate.

WEAK BUY
Trading around $455 US.

In the middle to lower part of the range. Trying to break out of a downtrend. So far, so good. Have to watch and see what happens.

He owns AXP, higher ranked on RSI. Bit of disruption in the space, as the Capital One & Discover deal had an impact on capital flows.

(Analysts’ price target is $517.00)

Higher ranked on RSI. Bit of disruption in the space, as the Capital One & Discover deal had an impact on capital flows.

DON'T BUY

Taking a hit today off of earnings. Peaked around $1200, struggled to stay above $900, and now the bottom is still falling out. Watch to see if any support around $500. Weak technically, under pressure.

With this kind of chart that moves so much, you have to think more like a trader than an investor.

HOLD

Steady uptrend of higher lows and higher highs. Beautiful rising channel, nice accumulation. So far, continuing to trend upward. Yield is 5%.

WATCH

Has its ups and downs, can be more volatile, so the dividend can help. These small caps are quite dependent on the energy price. Nice run earlier this year; now just bouncing between $3.50 and $4.25, looking for direction.
