TOP PICK
One of the biggest drillers in Western Canada. Likes the drilling industry because with the price of oil staying high, oil companies are just now taking all that excess cash and starting to spend it.
TOP PICK
The gold market is showing signs of turning and starting to act well. Placer had some problems with costs in some mines and thinks they will be successful in getting costs under control in the 2nd half of the year. They're also big in copper which has been doing exceedingly well.
TOP PICK
Even though it's a US stock, most of its sales are outside of the US. A great play on the world economy. Great management. Decent dividend as well. Stock was weak lately when they announced one quarter would be weak.
HOLD
Has turned out o be one of the premier Canadian retailers.
HOLD
Western Canada is showing much better growth than the rest of Canada so this is good for this bank. Entering the sub-prime mortgage market which Home Capital (HCG-T) has had pretty much to itself. It is also a take over target for one of the other banks.
BUY
One of the few real conglomerates that are left. Management has done a very good job.
BUY
Operations are widely diversified across Canada and in the Caribbean. Deploys its excess cash very well. Grows its dividend. Buys well.
BUY
The best run and most efficient raileway in North America. Had a great run and has been due for a pause here. In a long term uptrend.
HOLD
Dividend is very secure. One of the best run utility companies in Canada.
BUY
The only tobacco company that he knows that did not diversify. Any excess cash is paid out to the shareholders. Besides their regular dividend, every couple of years they pay out a special high dividend. Tobacco litigation in Canada in miniscule compared to the US.
TOP PICK
Somewhat of a defensive position. Not overly excited about the US stock market with the exception of a couple of sectors. Thinks the health care sector will do reasonably well. Obviously oil will do OK, but it's already had a great run.
TOP PICK
Not sure that this sector is undervalued so much as he feels the next move probably will be led by the tech sector. If he was looking for any kind of a turn around in the US market, it would be out of this sector.
TOP PICK
This is one of these trading range kind of stocks. Sure there will be some decent promotional news (no idea what) coming out. It's a growing industry. A momentum play. When it takes off, it'll probably go back to the $10 area and he would sell it again. Very speculaftive.
BUY
Sure this stock will split. Most of the banks do when they get up around $80. Likes the banks in general. This one has gone back to more of consumer lending.
