Tuesday rally, oil weakness
Tuesday saw a convincing rally that ended on session highs. The S&P ended up 2.02%, the Nasdaq 2.76% and the Dow 1.34%. Nearly all of the sectors rallied.
Major gainers included Boeing up 6.45%, Disney and JPMorgan both adding 3.31%, tech stocks like Booking Holdings up 4.92%, AMD popping 8.73% after an upgrade and Apple adding 2.54%. Walmart issued a negative report and shares were slammed 11.38%. In contrast, Home Depot offered a positive quarter and rose 1.68%. As tech rallied, the U.S. 10-year yield also climbed, nearly returning to 3%. Meanwhile, Bitcoin inched above $30,000.
The TSX rose 1.35% as materials, energy and financials led the charge. WTI jumped as high at $115, but fell back to $112 to shed 1.8%. Meanwhile, WCS fell nearly 5% to $95. Big movers on Bay Street: Manulife up 2.4%, Bombardier 7.76%, Arc Resources 4.37%, Air Canada 4.84% and Lightspeed regained 5.89% after being hammered in recent sessions. Similarly, Shopify climbed 3.19%. The Canadian dollar traded at 78 cents against the USD.
