Stocks rally for a positive Friday, week
A choppy week that saw strong sell-offs ended with a convincing rally to push all the major averages in o the green for the week. The averages on Bay and Wall streets all gained around 1.5% for the week. Optimism in tech fueled the move as the TSX gained 1.23%. All sectors rose, led by staples, materials and energy.
Major movers included Shopify jumping 5.4%, Lundin Mining by 3.79%, Capstone Copper 4.51%, Baytex at 3.3% though Hut 8 mining fell 3.69%. WTI cruse advanced more than 2% to nearly $80 a barrel.
The Nasdaq surged 1.9% as the S&P added 1.61% and the Dow 1.17%. Notable names were Apple up 3.51%, Ford 4.22%, Meta leaping 6.14% helped by the AI craze, Broadcom rallying 5.7% and Costco declining 2.15% after reporting. The U.S. 10-year yield slipped to 3.96% while Bitcoin plunged 5.3% to $22,200.
