Markets extend rally
Markets on both sides of the border extended the wide gains of the two previous sessions into Tuesday. The session was choppy but picked up steam towards the end. Moreover, volumes were robust while the VIX slid 11.5% to 22. In Toronto, almost all the sectors were in the green (except utilities and telcos), as the TSX rose 1.05%.
Among the winners were Spin Master soaring 12.65%, Lightspeed 6.52%, Canopy 5.68%, Aurora nearly 7% and Imperial Oil 5.36%. Laggards were TMX at -3.33% and Aritizia -2.48%. Crude oil saw a mixed day as WTI inched past $88 a barrel, while WCS slipped 0.85% to dip below $75.
On Wall Street, the Dow added 0.78%, the S&P 0.69% and the Nasdaq 0.75%. Among the winners were UPS which soared 14% after delivering a blowout earnings report, Netflix extended its rebound by 7%, Boeing rose 4% and Visa added 2.74%. Losers included Etsy at -3.13%, AT&T -4.24% and Discovery -2.65%. Bitcoin advanced nearly 1% to around $38,800. The U.S. 10-year yield held just below 1.8%.
