Stock price when the opinion was issued
(Top Pick Aug 22/14, Down 7.73%) Anything to do with commodities got killed because of the US$’s strength. The technicals were not there and did not turn so you should not have bought this security. It is still in a period of seasonal strength and needs at least two of the three technicals to be positive.
This is a basket of fertilizer stocks, and an easy way to play the fertilizer sector. Seasonal strength starts around the beginning of July and moves very strongly until around the middle to the end of September. This is followed by a little bit of a dip followed by a very, very strong move right through until the 1st week in January. The earnings for the sector have been really bad and have been trending down for the last couple of years. For the 1st quarter, in the last couple of years, earnings for the fertilizer sector is going to turn positive and earnings on a year over year basis are expected to be up about 15%.
(A Top Pick July 23/15. Down 7.77%.) The seasonality trade in the fertilizer sector is still positive. During the last week or so it has started showing signs of outperforming the market. If you own, continue to Hold, and in fact you can add to your position in the next 6 weeks or so. (See Top Picks.)
We have seen this sector not only outperform the market but established an upward trend in the last few weeks. It is getting very close to a very important resistance level. Technically it looks very interesting. On a seasonal basis, fertilizer stocks are very strong between now and the middle to the end of September. Technicals are starting to come together.
(A Top Pick Aug 4/17. Up 4%.) The period of seasonal strength is normally from about September right through until the end of December. The iShares Global Agricultural Index (COW-T) just had a break out today to an all-time high. However, both are reaching the end of their period of seasonal strength, around the end of December.
This, iShares Global Agriculture (COW-T) or Market Vectors Agribusiness (MOO-N)? This one is basically concentrated on fertilizer stocks and he does like the food theme. You might do better with a broader ETF like MOO or COW.
