Markets this time of year. Lots of cross currents. "Sell in May, go away" didn't happen. September and October can be dramatic. Lots of analogies to 1929 are flying around. He's seeing markets continue to hit all-time highs, especially with the large caps. Tech in the US and large caps have done well in last 4-5 months, moving the TSX and broader indices to all-time highs. Now seeing a rotation, where small and mid-caps had been consolidating, but more of them now starting to perform. Many are just on the cusp of starting to take leadership positions away from the large caps.
COMMENT
M&A in cannabis space. There has been lots of recent activity. Interesting, given that price performance this year hasn't been strong. The sector still looks more exciting than it ever has.
BUY
Renewable nat gas, using a few different technologies. Engineering expertise is their niche. Doing quite well. That sector will have huge tailwinds for the next decade. Raised capital, strong balance sheet. Stock's pulled back this year, because of the industry. Continues to like it.
BUY
Tailwinds over the next few years. Accretive acquisitions will add to market cap and bottom line. By pulling synergies out, margins can improve. Not the largest margin business, so they have to be careful. Market has been impressed, hitting all-time highs.
BUY
Share price has dropped almost 50% from highs. Business is growing organically and by acquisition. With time, market will look at the growth rate and the stock will appreciate. Be patient. Revenue growth more important than EBITDA right now.
BUY
Focus had been in NA. Now looking at Europe. Raised more money yesterday. Great job of acquisitions. Multiple is fairly high. Not the highest margin business, so they have to pull out synergies. War chest of cash for more acquisitions.
BUY
Watches it. Surprised it hasn't gotten more traction. We need to see the infrastructure bill kick into place. Then the stock should start to move. Partnering with Lafarge. Be patient while the pieces fall into place. Stock price looks to be bottoming, and with money flowing into small caps, this could have a nice move.
WATCH
Asset trackers. New iteration uses cell, not Wi-Fi. Helps cell phone companies boost revenue, as price of phone plans decreases. Before stepping in again, he's looking for a big ramp up in the trajectory of revenue and earnings.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Sep 01/20, Down 64%) Disappointing. Numbers haven't been coming as fast as the market would like. Over time, he has faith the resource will materialize from the drilling.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Sep 01/20, Up 212%) Phenomenal growth rate. Stock trades at a significant multiple. Still likes it.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Sep 01/20, Down 25%) Had a nice run, but then missed numbers without providing guidance ahead of time. The market didn't like this. Small cap consolidation has also impacted the stock. Affected by Covid. Pipeline is still really full, fairly solid reputation, renewable tailwinds. Confident stock will come back.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
Fantastic growth stock. Great margins. Highly fragmented business. Supply shortage. Great history of acquisitions. Tons of runway left in Canada. Multiple on the higher end. Risk is possible need to raise capital for a big acquisition. Hold and add on a pullback, or buy in chunks.
WATCH
On his radar. Stock's done well in a short time. He gets the gist of what they do, but doesn't understand how revenue and growth get driven forward. Looking for more evidence surrounding the numbers. Fairly volatile.
BUY
Continue to execute. Waiting for them to integrate acquisitions. Tremendous respect for the Chairman, as he's very picky on acquisitions. Bodes well for long-term success. As they grow market cap and show up on investors' radar, stock should close valuation gap with peers.
BUY
Canadian cannabis market is divided between big guys, which don't seem to do anything, and the small guys that are growing fast. But both get tarred with the same brush. NDVA numbers were outstanding. Thinks they'll be taken out. Impressed with operations. Only a matter of time before stock really performs.
