They have smartphone screen technology royalties for an OLED screen. Prior to this technology screens were made of a dozen layers. Today's phones are only 3-4 layers -- much clearer display. He was a buyer down from $120 to $90 and a seller above $150. This is not a buy and hold stock, but a good one to trade. The price of $170-$180 appears to be a ceiling. He thinks you will be able to by into it again around $145.

An ETF for a senior on a fixed income. You need growth without volatility, an asset-allocation ETF. Vanguard has a conservative one, VCNS-T with 60% bonds and 40% stocks, and another one that's 80/20. Caveat: interest rates are so low, so watch the bonds. It pays a 1.5% yield, like a GIC and charges only 25 basis points. This re-balances its holdings too. Start with this.

He likes gold. Because of the big mergers, gold companies are better managed now. XGD is a good place to start in gold rather than picking Newmont or Barrick. He has a long-term view on gold and that occupies 5% of his client portfolios. The full cost of gold production is US$1,200-1,300 per ounce, and makes up nearly the entire price of gold, but there's almost no risk premium in gold at all.
