Markets. There is a long term investor’s story and a shorter term story. He raised his cash levels from 5% to 20%. Longer term he thinks it is a fabulous environment. Shorter term the market has gone up without a correction so he is more defensive in here. He does not see a bear market at all. The secular bull market should go on for decades. When the leaders in the market get tired, then you get your correction. In the ‘80s market top there were three stocks that were taking the market higher and when they wore out the market went down. We are seeing this in the tech stocks. They have a lot of positive momentum in them. SHOP-T and FB-Q, for example, will have a lot of people exit in times of a correction and will correct more.

TOP PICK

He likes it even more now that it has slid down. The European banks are where the American banks were in 2009. Rates will be at their back, they will be consolidated and will have sectors they want to be in and so they will do well. (Analysts’ target: $13.13).

TOP PICK

They provide a low cost avenue to get to the cloud for people who are programming. They have had a big short position on them. They lost Uber last quarter and revenue is still up 60%. They will be profitable within a year. (Analysts’ target: $38.00).

TOP PICK

The demographics are powerful for this one. They had solid earnings, have a solid balance sheet and pay out a good dividend that increases. It is hard for AMZN-Q to get into this except in things like small appliances. (Analysts’ target: $175.00).

WEAK BUY

He bought ING-N because they have the banking side with it. AEG-N is a good competitor. He is not negative about AEG-N, but found more positive things in ING-N.

DON'T BUY

He does not own any of the REITs. He backed away because of rising interest rates. He worries about commercial REITs in light of what AMZN-Q is doing. BEI.UN-T is in Calgary and he thinks that area will lift again.

HOLD

They had a poor summer for movies. If you have a long enough view, then the management team is excellent and you could hold onto it. He is not in this sector right now.

WATCH

Japanese Casino Gambling. He looked at the entire sector a couple of years ago. He looked more at Chinese gambling, however. He did not buy. You want to own gambling stocks when the market is to the upside. Look for stocks you would like to own in this sector and then watch them through September/October for a low and if there is no correction then continue to watch them until the spring. Get them on the next up leg in the market.

BUY

It has been a laggard for a cycle or so (30 years). They just had a better quarter. This one might go up more than the others. He thinks there is no reason not to own this one.

PARTIAL BUY

AMZN-Q vs. BABA-Q. He likes them both. It is always better to buy them in a correction. But they both look like they could go higher. He suggests making a partial buy now. BABA-N looks exceptionally good because it is centric on Asia. BABA-N also gives you a Paypal equivalent. AMZN-Q is mostly North America.

PAST TOP PICK

(Top Pick Apr 15/16, Up 4.31%) He decided to take a trade on this one in the spring for seasonality reasons. There is no money flow into oil stocks. You are not seeing any new energy ETFs coming out because nobody cares. He only has 3 energy stocks left.

PAST TOP PICK

(Top Pick Apr 15/16, Down 2.26%) If anyone can get through AMZN-Q, L-T can. They have very deep pockets. Their balance sheet looks good. They are moving silently into health through Shoppers. Sometimes there are health clubs within their stores. This may make them okay.

PAST TOP PICK

(Top Pick Apr 15/16, Down 18.44%) New management is turning them around. They are now getting a lot of revenue through their service side. But it has been a big disappointment to him.

DON'T BUY

This one is in the work out phase. He stays with the larger banks. You are takin on the Western economy with this one. He prefers BNS-T and TD-T.
