Natural Gas. Very bullish on natural gas and natural gas stocks. Fort St. John, BC is considered the energy capital of BC. Activity levels are quite robust. The buzz on the street is very exciting. It is all centered around LNG projects that are unfolding including pipeline routings, etc. Happily, the LNG world in BC is in much better shape than the transmission of oil. Feels this will be a significant contributor to the outlook towards natural gas moving forward. There will be some projects that will happen prior to the creation of the huge LNG plants. The Bears on natural gas have been right for such a long time that that it is about time the Bulls got a better shake here. US shale gas plays really did upset the supply applecart in North America. For the 1st time in a long time we are feeling more comfortable with the outlook for natural gas. While the shale plays have been great, the only shale play in the US that is really showing growth is the Marsalis in the US Northeast. Feels we are in a very vulnerable spot if we don’t get storage filled up to where it needs to be by the end of the injection season.

STRONG BUY

Sell Crew Energy (CR-T) to Buy Spartan (SPE-T)? Crew is a great company. One of the issues is what they are going to do with their oil property in southeast Alberta, so he wouldn’t be too hasty on selling it. However, if you have any other capital available, he would recommend buying this. A very dynamic, fast-growing company with a competent management team. In some of the best economic plays in the Cardium in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Their growth curve is going to be very, very sharp. Have great capital in the market so the stock is very well valued. Looking for them to do more acquisitions and change their production profile. They are going to be over 10,000 barrels a day before too long.

COMMENT

This is in the Viking play, and he thinks the economics have always been better in the Cardium. An exceptional company.

COMMENT

Delphi (DEE-T) or Tourmaline (TOU-T)? Have done a very good job on their Big Stone assets. They are into some bigger, more prolific wells. He can’t compare the 2 because Tourmaline is the benchmark in the industry. He would prefer Tourmaline because it has more exposure to the play that he really likes, the Montney in Northeast BC and North-Western Alberta.

COMMENT

Delphi (DEE-T) or Tourmaline (TOU-T)? This is the benchmark in the industry. Management team has a well-known track record of building companies to a big level, and then selling them. He would prefer this one because it has more exposure to the play that he really likes, the Montney in Northeast BC and North-Western Alberta.

HOLD

This is a name you have to own if you like heavy oil or steam flood projects. They have a great project in their steam flood project in Onion Lake, and the market doesn’t give them a lot of credit for it. Because it is such a large project, they’re going to have to find a joint venture partner to pull it off.

BUY

Raised their dividend 3 times in the past year. Have been growing by acquisition. Now is harvest time because in their acquisitions, they will get at, and extract more value out of those assets. The one thing it doesn’t have right now is yield respect i.e. it trades at a pretty healthy yield in a market where the best trade at 4%-5%. Thinks this company will become one of the best. Don’t discount further dividend increases.

HOLD

If you own, you have to stick around to see if the Put that is about to get exercised, actually happens. There has been some chatter in the street lately about things going on in China and if Petro China going to put cash back in this company’s hands. If that doesn’t happen, that is a bad thing, but he thinks it probably will happen.

BUY

Pressure on this came with the departure of one of the senior guys that was thought to be the sole driver behind their success in the Stolberg play. He feels they have proven to the market that the people still in this company are capable of delivering results. Also, did a big farm-in with Encana (ECA-T) on PrarieSky (PSK-T), and seems they have the competency to chase a reserve like this. Thinks the market has underestimated the potential of Entice. Feels this is a $5 stock.

PAST TOP PICK

(A Top Pick Aug 1/13. Up 35.77%.) Had looked too steeply discounted. Started to deleverage the balance sheet through some asset sales and performance started to get better. Sold some of his holdings as it started to move up, and thinks there are probably more exciting places to go.

PAST TOP PICK

(A Top Pick Aug 1/13. Up 27.94%.) The Lindbergh play is exceptional. There will be a yield compression, and the stock will go higher. Don’t rule out dividend increases when Lindbergh comes into full production.

PAST TOP PICK

(A Top Pick Aug 1/13. Up 5.23%.) This enjoyed a great run as the year unfolded, until a point in time when they came to the market with some production complications on a few of their fields. Continues to like the story because of their light oil acquisition of Blackshire. Very healthy dividend yield of over 11%, which he feels is still secure. He is going to continue to hold this for a while, but wouldn’t be adding to it.

COMMENT

This was a spin out from Encana (ECA-T) on the royalty lands they held. These were fee lands granted to CP Rail (CP-T) when it was built in the 1800s. This is an asset base that is very unique and could not be replicated. There is significant production of about 15,000 BOE’s a day, so there is a lot of cash flow. Dividend is quite secure. The curious thing about a royalty barrel is that there is no cost attached to it. A producer produces 100 barrels of oil, gives this company their 10 barrels, and pays everything out of his 90 barrels. The upside is that there are 5,000,000+ acres of land that is undeveloped, and producers are coming with proposals to drill. Upside could be quite material. At the upper end of valuation, but don’t rule out additional drilling on the lands. If you are a long-term player, it is probably something you want to own in your portfolio.

BUY

A very dynamic company and very well run. Believes the asset base will continue to grow. They seem to be involved in most midstream projects. Their asset base is going to continue to grow. You have to be patient with the stock, and it will be a nice, steady performer. 3% dividend yield.
