BUY ON WEAKNESS
Favourable outlook for next 2 years. Light oil focused and good strategy. Potential for further development using water flood and other techniques in the Bakken. Have gone to the market too many times to raise equity capital for an acquisition. Metrics for this acquisition is $106,000 a flowing barrel where average is $70,000-$80,000. Wait for a better entry point.
WEAK BUY
Lots of land. Pays a decent dividend. Some good growth in front of them. Lagged their peers who have gone into horizontal drilling and fracing. Not a screaming buy, but a name you could hold.
TOP PICK
One of the parties involved in the Gulf spill. Have one of the best US land operations anywhere and they are gaining share. Very sophisticated operations. Just had a blowout quarter with $.52 in earnings versus $.32 that was expected. Looking for 30%-35% upside.
TOP PICK
Controversial but thinks it's time. Basic company and thesis remains intact. Some of the best oil/gas leases anywhere in the world. Will increasingly be a “go to” name. Can see 35%-40% upside.
TOP PICK
Oil focused. Announced a distribution cut, which was an overhang as no one knew what was going to happen. Have entered into several very smart joint ventures to develop fields and reserves that could add 1 billion barrels or more at virtually no cost to them.
COMMENT
Cheap. Petrobank (PBG-T) would be a better way to play it as they hold an interest in this plus Petrominerales (PMG-T). The problem with this stock was that they had over promised and under delivered.
BUY
Heavy oil exposure in Albania. Initial concern was if they could meet exit guidance for the year and he feels reasonably confident that they will. Also potential for development to the west of them. Sitting on a very significant field.
BUY
One of the largest companies in the country. Best leases in the oil sands. Stumbled a little bit with fires and setbacks on their upgraders but starting to turn the corner. Had a good quarter recently. Throwing off more and more cash the cause of their integration with Petrocan.
HOLD
Good small junior. Reasonably decent balance sheet. Being small without a focused strategy is limiting.
BUY
Of all the US majors this one has the most potential. Went from showing no growth and poor returns on capital to having one of the most focused capital programs in showing growth as well as reserve addition.

PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Sept 10/09. Up 7%.) Just bought some Bakken plays in southern Alberta that adds an element of speculation, which doesn't thrill him. He'll be having a hard look at this.
