Markets fade into close
Despite an early rally, Wednesday markets in Toronto and New York failed to rally and closed on weakness. The S&P closed 5,200 and finished the session -0.77% lower as the Nasdaq performed -1.05% and the Dow -0.6%.
The most-active names: Nvidia -5.12%, Intel -4.24% and Apple 1.25%. Semis as a sector were pounded as SMCI fared -20.14%. Elsewhere, Airbnb was -13.38% though Fortinet soared 25.3% after reporting. The U.S. 10-year-yield continued to inch up, touching 3.95%. Bitcoin gave back 1.55% to US$55,175.
Though WTI rebounded % to US$75.45, the TSX sank 0.42% to close below 22,000. Key names: Suncor 4.38%, Manulife -2.35%, Aritzia 2.73%, Brookfield Corp. -4.16% and Shopify jumped 17.88% after a beat. Gold retreated US$5 to US$2,385.
