Markets fade further
Markets in both New York and Toronto extended Monday’s losses into Tuesday. The major American indices all shed around a third of a percentage point as tech led the way down.
Once more, Nvidia was the most active name, at -2.69%, as well as Intel at -3.12%. Moderna closed -9.07% and Super Micro Computer -8.2%, though Walgreens soared 17.74%. The U.S. 10-year-yield held around 4.2% while Bitcoin declined 0.35% to US$96,600.
In Toronto, only discretionary managed to gain as all other sectors lost ground, especially health care and tech. The TSX finished Tuesday -0.47%. Major names: CNQ -0.76%, Manulife -1.57%, TD 0.88%, BlackBerry -4.34% and Torex -4.89% as many mining names sank. WTI was flat at US$68.40 while gold added US$32 to US$2,692. Bay Street widely expects the Bank of Canada to further cut interest rates on Wednesday, perhaps by 50 basis points.
